I am looking to piece together a plinking ar15. I am pretty set on getting a plum crazy lower. I know eu are cheap but for the purpose they are fine for me ( I shoot pistols and bolt action more). And my 12 ga is my home defense. So no bashing on that. Basically I want a pretty cheap complete upper to match it with. I want to be able to shoot 5.56 and .223. Basically just a simple upper I can put some iron sights onand go play once in a while.

So what do y'all think. Which upper would be a good budget plinker?

I actually did they are just out of a lot of stuff. Would like to stay around 300 and would buy used as well. My complete lower is only 120 so if I can mate a 300 upper that 420 for the gun which is great for me. Leaves me more for my other projects and ammo lol.

^^^ Yeah, but the man already said he wanted to stay around $300 for a complete upper (i.e., BCG included). I guess he's on his own.
OP, you can go cheap, but it's really hard when you want to go even cheaper than cheap.

I know, but I'm trying. Sometimes it's easier on a limited budget if you can get a good deal on a part here and there, and build the rifle piece by piece.

I'm all for trying out a Plumcrazy lower for .22LR, but for 5.56/.223 you might consider upgrading the trigger spring and do KNS pins. Pretty much just keep a good eye on all the innards. That stuff is where the real concern and extra expense (of being cheap) comes in with those lowers. It'll put you a little over the $120 price point (unless you get a stripped PC lower), but still keep you relatively lower than even the cheapest stripped lower/LPK combo at PSA for $130-$160, but not by much.

Happy hunting on the $300 complete upper...

I've been scouring Palmetto like crazy as well for my new list but still of their completed kits are sold out. I'm about to throw together a kit and check with folks on if I'm missing anything.

As for OP, you may want to start saving up a little more. I've been looking all over and I have seen at least 500. Cdnn does have a 22 plunker that is ar-styled on sale at 220ish.

Well I have seen 399 and such which is not bad I would t mind in that range but some people when you say 399 will still give you 600 and that is too high. This will be a slow project. But on tue lower, they put a 50 bmg build together with one so I think I will be ok.

I like the cdn link I may go for it. That will still put me around 550 fo whole gun which is ok

Too bad you weren't going up to $600. The Smith & Wesson Sport model would be perfect for you.

Who knows the quality of the barrel, but here's a new & surplus mixed kit from SARCO with everything but the lower for $399 - http://e-sarcoinc.com/ar15m16partskitminuslowerwteloscopingstock.aspx . Here's a link to $56 aluminum lowers - http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/1119504/ . Send Cliff an e-mail, and see if he has any left. That's as close to $420 as I can get you. I bought a few of the SAA Aero lowers from Cliff to put dedicated .22 LR uppers on myself. They're aluminum Aero Precision machined lowers, and everything on them checked out fine. I wouldn't hesitate to put anything on those lowers that I'd put a DD or BCM lower.

PSA has their lower build kits on sale for $90 right now. If Cliff over at Karri's Custom Guns has any stripped lowers left that would get you a complete aluminum lower with good parts for $150 + shipping if you wanted to buy an upper later.
