A friend gave me a AR lower stripped. He has had it for several years and never put it together. He just went out and purchased two ARs complete. I got the lower home and remembered that I had a extra stock for my colt AR so I thought I would put it together, but the threads seem to be different. The receiver was made by E. A. CO. Are there different thread sizes for the tube? I have a lot to check out before I build, but this has me wondering:confused: Thanks Mark

While the body of milspec and some commercial spec carbine tubes can be different, I believe the threading is the same.

What kind of stock tube is it? Rifle, carbine? It is a Colt tube? Is E. A. you refer to Essential Arms?

Wow!! I really feel like a dummy. I don't know why I had trouble getting it together yesterday. Tonight it went right together. Must be the long hours at work. I really appreciate the help. Now I have to figure out just what kind of a AR I want. Thanks again.... Mark:banghead: :banghead:

I wouldn't feel too bad about it, cookie. A couple of weeks ago, I was fuddling around with my AR after taking it apart, trying to figure out why its stock was so wiggly.

I mashed on the buffer-retainer thing and realized that I could turn it in another 360 degrees, hurr durr.

So no worries on noobin' it on your first AR build.
