I need recommendations on where to buy a decent AR sling. I don't want to spend $50-60 for a nylon strap especially after reading negative reviews on many slings the most common being that either the strap is too short for normal Americans (they seem to be made in China for smaller people) or the hardware is so cheap that fails with little use. I am looking for a functional, no frills military surplus sling at surplus stores for a good while. It seems like every product I find that looks good is out of stock.

Can anyone suggest a product and/or retailer where I can find one?

I have been using the Blue Force Gear Vickers 2 point (padded and unpadded).

Too many versions to list, but here is a link to Primary Arms so you can see what’s available.

I also have used the Magpul AR sling. That works for me as well.

The Magpul version I have is lighter and slides across clothing a bit easier than the Vickers.

Both can be had right around $50 which I feel is quite fair for the quality.

Warrior Poet Supply Company offers a sling they claim is the “best” so you can check there too. I’m no operator, but John Lovell is so I would defer to him over me on this one…lol.

I equip all my rifles with these made in the US 72 inch slings. They are basic slings but long enough that I can put my head and either my shooting arm or off hand arm through them. I have bought these slings from this seller who is in the US.

Otherwise, I hear nothing but good things about the Blue Force Gear slings mentioned above.

Everyone has their favorite. I like a Magpul MS1 for a Two point sling. They work well.

I was issued an M1, an M14 and an M16, all with the sling zdc1775 noted from Amazon.
I used a leather sling in competition for the M1, M14 and AR15.
What you will be doing with your rifle might dictate what sling it should wear.
Anything from Amazon is easy peasy to return, no questions.

I prefer Magpul but I've heard lots of good things about Vickers sling as well.

To me a good AR sling needs to be strong enough for weapon retention as well as adjustable enough to use it in all three configurations (necktie, over the shoulder, and slung on the back).

Depends on the desired usage.

As a simple carry strap, get a padded QR version, so that it's out of the way while shooting. Two Point

If meant to emulate military usage, the modern versions of the M36 with its spring-clip rear hook is hard to beat. Two Point

That M-36 style can be pressed into service as a shooting support, but it wants practice and tuning.

For an actual shooting support, that winds up being as particular as a specific shooter. Which can be from one to elebenty point sling mounting. You have to do you.

For like NRA High Power, generally one of the repeatable leather slings is usually best. And such get paired with the mandatory bondage vest of misery.

Sounds like you just want a simple USGI nylon silent sling? That's what I personally prefer, and use on my AR-15 (I like the rugged simplicity of it).

Search them via their NSN number:

For the 54" sling, search NSN 1005-01-216-4510

For the 74" sling, search NSN 1005-01-368-9852

If they are described via these numbers, then they should at least be made in accordance to the specs.

I use canvas GI or SKS style slings on most of my rifle AR's. They're
1.25" wide instead of the usual inch.

I use convertible slings on pistols

I've always had the best results with the VICKERS Blue Force slings. They are super easy to adjust and nothing to get tangled up in gear (unlike the VTAC). If you intend to be carrying your AR for longish periods of time the padded sling is the better option. You can cynch it in to your body nice and tight and then quickly open it back up, etc.

I have a couple surplus slings with the metal clips. They work fine but the metal makes noise. For hunting I have to tap them up so they don't rattle.
