...I can't believe I don't know this. *sigh* or maybe I did and I've forgotten.

Is the stock extension/buffer tube for the standard 4-position telestock the same for the "new improved" ribbed/reinforced telestock?

My bottom line is, I already have the original style 4-position telestock on my short AR, I've been thinking about going to the newer reinforced style and I was wondering if I could just replace the stock or do I need a new buffer tube as well?

Yes, they are the same although the new tube usually has more positions drilled into it.

However, be aware that Colt buffer tubes and other buffer tubes (Bushmaster, RRA, Armalite, Olympic, etc) have different dimensions and a stock from one of those companies may not fit on a Colt buffer tube and vice versa.

VLTOR, COlt and LMT all use a mil-spec buffer tube. The remaining companies use a slightly undersized buffer tube.

Yes, the outer diameter of the tube isn't as big. This is why you can only use the VLTOR stocks with a mil-spec buffer tube and why they don't work on the Bushmaster, RRA, etc. Somewhere at ARFCOM they may have the difference in measurements - Tweak might know.

Question...I have a colt on order (a 6450 9mm), and it comes with a CAR style collapsable stock. Is it possible to get the newer tactical stock piece (not buffer, spring, etc. as the gun has those already) to retrofit? I want one because it has a taller butplate - don't have to scrunch my head down so much. Thanks!
