I just found a discounted price on an old style M4 plastic adjustable stock kit. This kit doesn't have the "ribs" and is the old profile on the butt plate. I've always wanted to try an adjustable on my AR but was wondering if this was a good deal for $45 NIB. This is the kit with extension tube, stock, buffer, and spring.

It would seem to me that this isn't the newest looking thing, but for the price I can get all the standard "guts" and try the stock. If I ever want to upgrade, I only need the "stock" piece right?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Actually, you can interchange the stocks on the same tube. Just have less range with teh old 4 pos. than the 6 pos.

SOmething to consider, is if'll just be an experiment (see how you like them) stock, or something you'll use for a while. The cheap made in china stuff doesn't always hold up against use;)

I believe this may be DPMS stuff. It is in a box from Brownells and I haven't looked too closely at it. The buffer appears to be the appropriate buffer for these stocks.

Even old 4 position stocks can be drilled to make them 6 postition. My SP1 had only 2 positions, in or out. Had a local gunsmith drill 3 more postions in the tube. I did'nt trust myself not to drill through the tube. Now it's the most comfortable shooting ar I have.
