I was shooting my RRA LAR-8 today and to get straight to the point, the trigger didn't reset after a shot. I can move the bolt carrier group but the trigger won't pull and I can't put the safety on. I'm kinda stumped.
has this happened to any of you before? What's the solution?

Help, THR, HELP!!!!

Take the upper off. Try to reset the trigger by hand, first with your finger OFF the trigger. The trigger should catch the hammer at the sear.

Now you want to release the hammer. *DO NOT LET THE HAMMER DROP ON THE OPEN RECEIVER.* Keep your off hand thumb in front of the hammer, between the hammer and the reveiver. Pull the trigger and release the hammer.

Now HOLD THE TRIGGER DOWN and push the hammer down. It should catch on the disengagement hook. Then release the trigger. The hammer should then catch on the sear.

Let us know which of these tests fail, and we can help you figure out what to do next.

I went about following your instructions, and after manually resetting the trigger the hammer is locked back and I cannot pull the trigger. Its all stuck.

What's next?

And if I pull the hammer up just a bit I get a small click, then the trigger will function properly. If I reset it slowly and gently I get one click and the trigger will function properly. If I push the hammer back hard I get the first click, then a second click which seems to be making the hammer "stick"

If I hear you right, it sounds like there is an issue with the sear, like a burr on it or something in the way, or the spring for the disconnector may not be seated correctly.

How comfortable are you with taking out the hammer/trigger assembly?

This is a nice animation on how everything works together.

The disconnector sitis in the trigger group, with a small spring that pushes it upward.

My suspicion is that this spring may not be seated correctly, and binding up the works, or there may be a burr on the sear. The trigger spring may also be a culprit here, but I think it's less likely.

GRIP SCREW.....

One more thought. Sometimes the grip screw can be a bit too long and protrude into the receiver just enough to interrupt trigger movement. Adding a washer under the grip screw head can solve this, or trimming down the screw.

You may have a primer or some other piece of trash under or in the FCG. Disassemble the FCG and reassemble.
Just a thought...

I think I could try to take it apart. I'm pretty comfortable with it.

Now when I manually manipulate the hammer to get thentrigger to function properly, my safety will still only go about a quarter of the way to the safe position.
Does that change anything?

There is something in under the trigger assembly that I have never noticed before. Now that you mention it it could be a primer. Thanks hillman, I'll check that.

Situation averted! Many thanks to you, Hillman. You were exactly right. Blown primer under the safety. I was using the DAG surplus ammo from Germany. First problem I've had though. Thanks THR.
