Interesting. That wouldn't have occurred to me either! ...but both of my stocks must be vented, as evidenced by the pools of CLP under the rack if i overlube them...and the occasional stain on a good button down shirt.

Also interesting about M1S's CS...i just ordered my parts over the internet, never talked to anyone.

I doubt you will have any problems. Most people don't...

The woman who took my first call said she was "technical support". When I explained my problem, she asked, "Do you have the enhanced firing pin?" Apparently she didn't understand what my problem was. Said she would have the "lead tech" give me a call. Nada.

M1key thank you for the update! I have not been shooting the x39 lately just .22 and some pistol, but golly gee I am glad everything is working for you.

I plan on picking up a Del-ton 7.62x39 upper when they have their annual 15% off Black Friday sale.

Let us know how the Del-Ton works for you. Everyone I know likes their 5.56 model so I would be interested in how yours works in the x39. I do like the 7.62x39 caliber and the cheaper hard hitting ammo.

Be aware of two industry standards for AR in 7.62x39 and other large bore variants.

The AR industry has reached the level of the 1911 pistol customization industry. Various 1911 parts manufacturers offer improvements to the original design with different dovetail sight cuts, ramped barrels, etc etc. If the amateur isn't sharp, he/she might buy parts that are not dimensionally compatible. The same thing is happening in the AR industry.

The AR industry now has two headspace dimension standards for the 7.62x39 cartridge, and they are not mutually compatible.

'Type 1' is industry standard for most 7.62x39 rifles (Colt's original spec). Some 264 Les Baer and other cartridge developers cut chamber headspace to that same spec. Some wildcats use 7.62x39 as the parent cartridge and keep that same spec. Type 1 boltface depth is 0.125".

'Type 2' is the way Alexander arms began cutting their 7.62x39 bolts several years ago, .010" deeper than Type 1 Colt spec: 0.135-0.136" (depth of bolt face). Other cartridge developers followed.

To the best of my knowledge, Model 1 Sales follows the Type 1 standard. Black Hole barrels made before May 2011 use the Type 1, but changed after that date. Those are the only two I know for sure, if in doubt you better ask who made your barrel. Or buy bolt and barrel from the same manufacturer and verify compatibility at time of order.

It's no wonder...

With the Type 1 and Type 2 chamber dimensions, the vented buttstock screw discovered by M1key, gas port variations, inadequate magazines, poor springs, questionable ammo, not to mention variations in bore dimension .308 vs. .311, gee whiz...

It's no wonder the 7.62x39 AR got such a bad reputation for a few years, and not necessarily a reputation it deserved.

Curious no one seems to think they might need a different Buffer and Buffer Spring. I would have thought they would have to be changed.

I've been running three uppers off one lower with no buffer issues. 7.62x39 as discussed, 7.62x25 16" rmx, and a 20" govt bcm. My AR issues have all been with magazines.
