Building an upper for the first time on my own...

The upper is going to have an aluminum free float tube, and JP Adjustable Gas Block. When I screwed the barrel, free float tube, and gas block together by hand, there was almost a 1/4" gap between the gas block and the free float tube. My question is, am I missing something here? I have a 20" Bull Barreled Upper, and there doesn't seem to be as large a gap. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'd rather ask a stupid question than f'up my project. Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks for the reply Steve. Puts my mind at ease. Yeah, everything lines up perfectly, now I just need to order an action block & a wrench for the float tube. I look forward to shooting a different caliber out of my AR (.300 Whisper); I'll post once I get it to the range.

I have a four rail gas block and a float tube on my .458 Socom upper and it looks just like your picture. You certainly wouldn't want them touching; that would defeat the purpose of the float tube. I think you are fine.

He is playing your song Steve. Did you ever buy that .300 Whisper ?

I just got a .300 "Fireball" from Model One Sales. So far so good.

444...

Tell me about this .458 SOCOM.
I might have to have one...
