Help!:what: My google-foo is strong yet the quest for a lightweight upper for my ar is kicking my butt. Backstory- I just sold my HBar upper because it was so dang heavy. I did not think it was heavy until I picked up a buds PSA 16 M4 rifle (with a quad rail) and realized I had a boat anchor. Help me find a light complete uppper under $600. That is the top end since I would like to save some cash for those great wiz-bang gizmos. I would love a 14.5 (non NFA) or a 16 mid length. Please help since I feel like this guy>:banghead:

I bought two complete uppers from JSE Surplus in Cape Giradeau MO last fall. I have 3-4 hundred rounds thru one and 100-150 thru the other. I haven't done any serious sandbag grouping, but both shoot as well as I do. Most of the reviews of JSE that I've read have been positive, and they have a lot of configurations to choose from. I'm happy with mine. $410 for one and $440 for the other with RRA bcg's.

I think you are banging your head because there is no such thing as a light m4 midlength. m4 contour barrels are regular carbine gas. There is an armalite probly some nice CMMG and Del-ton on gun broker among others. I would consider a windham weaponry as well.

Scraper- The upper I sold was from JSE. They just dont seem to have the deals they had a few months back and most barrel options I like are out of stock.

John- That is at the top of my list but he had to get a heavy buffer to get his to run even on 5.56 ammo. I like the middy they have but their ligh weight profile just says its an A2 turned down after the front sight base. I was looking to save most wight under the handgaurds.

They're all "government profile" (hourglass looking) under the handguards. The only difference between most lightweight and medium profile barrels is the diameter under the front sight block and the end of the barrel.

The PSA lightweight isn't a true "lightweight" because it uses a .750" front sight block, but honestly the 1/8" diameter difference is only for the few inches outside of the handguards.

Either mid length from PSA is going to be noticably lighter than an M4 or HBAR profile.

Also, you can get a cold hammer forged barrel, made by FN (who makes the barrels for our soldiers SAW guns, in fact the PSA barrels use the same steel and chrome lining), for the same price other manufacturers sell non chrome lined corner cut special uppers for.

If you won't buy the PSA, you can get a Bravo Company upper for $600 (upper assembly, BCG, charging handle, and handguards).
