With so many AR-15 clones, which one is the best and why. Which one has the best support and the fewest problems?

THis has been posted many many times. Please do a search and look over the info you find.

Your needs dictate what you get. What a Durable, reliable, milspec gun? get a Colt, BCM, LMT, DD, etc.

Want go to the range and throw some rounds downrange every 60 days? Get anything but a Hesse or Oly.

Want a super accurate gun? Get a Noveske.

What he said...you get what you pay for. I would start with BCM or Colt if money was handy. If money is a little tighter you can find deals all over the net for decent guns.

CDNN Investments has got a killer deal on S&Ws. And you get 5 good magazines with those. Don't buy the version with the cheap rail and reddot...you'll have to download the catalog off of their website and call them to order and have it shipped to your FFL.

Colt 6920s are running right at a grand.

You are in a perfect market for ARs. Plentiful and cheaper than usual.

build your own! its pretty easy and fun! plus you will get to know your rifle like never before!

My standard AR response, makes the fanboys mad :)

"99% of the ARs on the market are perfectly fine for 99% of the shooters. If you are one of the 1% you probably know it and don't ask the question anyway."

It comes down to budget for the most part.

With the market the way it is now even the 6920's are below $1000 so it's a good time to buy.

LWRC

Piston based (better reliability and less cleaning), really good service (from what I hear, I haven't had a reason to use their service yet) and a variety of models to choose from. 5.56 and 6.8 spc are the base, they have a REPR model in 7.62.

Cons: Pricey. $2k + budget.

There are more threads on this subject then I have hairs on my head though. Use the search feature and have a couple hours to sit down and read because you will be doing a lot of it.

+1 for the build your own.

be different and get yourself a milled reciever and use quality parts.

don't forget to stake the parts that need to be staked! or else it won't even be close to the all important "mil spec"

Where have you guys been seeing 6920's for below 1k? I have been seeing them around the 1,100 and 1,200 range but that's about it.

Also, I never hear much about the S&W M&P rifles, I have seen a few around for decent prices but never really hear much good or bad about them. Does anyone know anything about their quality?

ENC i kmow a few guys that bought the S&W ar i havn't herd them say anything bad about them i've been meening to invite one of them to shoot with me at my range just so can see how the S&W performs.

I picked up my first AR in 1971 in boot camp. I'm familiar with how the weapon shoots and how it's put together. What I don't know is which ones have quality issues with the large number of copy cats today.

Recently we just had a local gun show in Fort Lauderdale at the War Memorial Auditorium. outside of a military armory I haven't seen so many AR's in one place.

With so many brands its' hard to weed out the junk. Yes I could do a search, I know how to do that also, but I was looking for quality answers based on experiences you've had, not hollow smart ass responses in one place.

Yes, I know the major players, Colt, S&W, Bushmaster, etc. but are there good guns outside of this elite group?

Don't forget the good target AR-15s, White Oak, Rock River, Armalite, etc. I would start with a good DCM model from Rock River and get a White Oak upper for scoped accuracy and a DPMS A-4 style upper for fun, maybe an Armalite flat top . . . oh, wait, I actually did that! No regrets! Besides with the more accurate rifles you won't mind paying good money for good ammunition, skip the foreign battle packs and go straight to Black Hills . . . you don't really want to waste money feeding your family do you?

Bushmaster doesn't belong with the others.

Daniel Defense, Bravo Company Manufacturing, S&W, Charles Daly Defense, Lewis Machine and Tool, Noveske, Knight's Armament, Sabre Defense, Colt. You should find something there that satisfies your budget and tastes.

I'm the kind of person who appreciates quality and requires it.

A lot of people will say DPMS, Olympic, Bushmaster, Rock River, CMMG, Armalite...those are guns built to a lower price point. They may be very accurate. They are generally somewhat lower cost than the first set of brands I listed. Some rifles of the brands may even be reliable, but I don't trust any of them. I'm not a brand fan, I don't care what it says outside of my rifle (within my limits) but I care very much about what's inside. All ARs are not created equal. It is not Ford/Chevy/Dodge.

If you want a target AR-15, buy whatever you want.

If you want an AR-15 that's ultra reliable...well, I've given you the information.

There is no reason to buy from the lower brands when the high quality brands are at the prices they are these days. $100 can make a lot of difference in what you go home with.

I have the cmmg and I love it. GT Distributors has a sale on Daniel Defense M4. You get 4 magpul mags an EOTECH 512 sight and the hard carring case for around 1900.00. The website is gtdist.com

DPMS RRA CMMG are all parts ive used. I have never had an FTF or an FTE. EVER. I keep my guns very WELL lubricated and squeaky clean.

s&w mp-15s are excellent. I have had no failures whatsoever in the many thousands of rounds I've had it, and I know it's a bad habit but it's only been cleaned once- just fresh oil when it starts looking dry.

I've seen thinking of the M&P for my next AR. $799 is hard to beat, although, Bravo Company has a sales right now and I REALLY want one of those. The way I see it, is just spend the extra money. Once you're in it for $700-$800, another $100 to $200 is not a huge deal in the long run.
