So, in honor of my 556th post, I figure I should bring up the AR15...
I am planning on building an M16A4-type rifle... rifle length, A2 stock, flat top, etc. So, I call on THR to help me with planning a build, and on a budget. I'm not looking to spend more than $650ish.
BCM or PSA upper, complete ~ $100
PSA stripped lower ~ $80
PSA A2 LPK ~ $120
KAC M5 RAS (blemished) ~ $150
Del-Ton 20" Barrel with front sight and A2 flash hider ~ $193
Gas tube ~ $10

So all totaled, that's $653... Of course tax/shipping will play a part on some of the items, and I've got access to the tools to build it, as well as a few folks who know more than me, if I need any assistance. So what do you think of the AR I'd have at that price? Am I missing anything necessary?

Input is appreciated!

I did at first, but I plan to have an optic (I plan to put a Vortex Strikefire on it) on this, and it just makes more sense to have the flat top. Plus it looks better, in my opinion.

where are you getting complete BCM uppers anywhere close to 100 dollars? I'm assuming you mean upper receivers, you're forgetting a whole bunch of critical parts, Bolt carrier groups and the like. You're not getting in under 650.

You probably won't even get close.

Bolt carrier group and charging handle are about 180

BCM is currently running their BCG's at 139 unless you start talking about the fancy Ni coated BCG's (which about double your price and only seem to be desirable for super high round count race guns) they're the best carrier groups on the market. A charging handle is a charging handle, you could drop the 45+ on a neat big latch one, or <10 bucks on a gun show special

Get the lower of your choice and complete it with the PSA 20" rifle kit? Everything but the tools (and you only really need a few punches for the lower) and under $700. That's about as cheap as you're going to get it done. I can vouch for the quality of the upper and all the rest of it as well. Only change I made to mine was the trigger. I put a Gieselle Hi Speed Service Rifle trigger in it.

Just like Helotaxi said; find yourself a cheap lower, like PSA's for instance. Then get PSA's 20" kit. So that's actually around $700 for a complete rifle. PSA is good quality. I'd take one of their FN cold hammer forged barrels any day over many other competitors.

I'd say get a PSA 20" barrel instead, and you'll need a bolt carrier group. PSA's premium BCG will fit the bill.
