Not where I wanna be
Hello, I have been following this forum for a while before I decided to become a member. With that, this is my 1st post ever, so please forgive any ignorance on my part. :) I have SOME very limited experiance with the AR15 platform from my time in the Young Marines and shooting range rentals, but I have been trying to save up to buy my own for a while, which would also make it my !st personally owned rifle. It would used fo range use and (hopefully never) SD/HD situation. I plan only to use true 5.56mm ammo. I would like to get anyones opinion on this build.

-Daniel defense 14.5'' lightweight stipped barrel
-Vltor MUR-1S upper reciever
-BCM auto BCG
-Battlecomp 1.5
-Bcm gas tube
-JP VTAC carbine handguards
-PSA lower reciever
-PSA gen. 2 MOE LPK
-BCM stock mounting kit with H2 buffer
-Magpul mil-spec MOE stock
-BCM mod.5 gunfighter charging handle
-Magpul gen. 2 rear MBUS
-Aimpoint COMP-ML3
-American Defense AD-68 standerd mount
-BCM .625 gas block

Does this build sound good to the more experienced AR15 users on this board? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Looks like a darn fine build to me. Are you sticking with the standard trigger? If so that is pretty much the only thin I would change as I am in love with my SSA-E

For now, atleast until I get more experience with the platform. :)
Frankly with all the offerings I have seen and read about from Gieselle (doubt I spelled that right) I have no idea what makes them different from one another, other then the SSF trigger works with a happy switch LOL

Pretty hard to argue with anything in your list. I think you're wise to go carbine length gas over midlength since the barrel is 14.5".

My only suggestion would be go 16" and go midlength gas but there are good reasons to go short too. Depends on the application. I think the 1.3" or so extra length is worth it to avoid a permanent muzzle brake. (Unless you're in a ban state and can't have a screw on brake anyway.)

Polish the trigger and try putting a set screw in the pistol grip screw hole so you can adjust the trigger. I did this with a CMMG and a DPMS lower parts kit and the trigger came out pretty good. I also tried it with a Spikes lower parts kit and the trigger was still terrible.

Quentin-I thought about using a mid-length gas/16'' barrel, but wanted something shorter and lighter, even if thats only 1'' in length and maybe 6 oz. in weight.

candr44-How would I go about polishing the trigger?

Just a word of warning about polishing GI triggers, even light polishing can remove the triggers groups heat treating, which will accelerate wear. It could still have a long trouble free life, but you raise the odds that it won't.
The ALG triggers only run about 65 bucks if memory serves, and essentially it is a very refined version of the traditional trigger.

Realize that having all those parts in your possession as described without a tax stamp for a short barreled rifle constitutes constructive possession. That extra 1.5" of barrel makes a very small difference in handling and huge difference with the law. For a first rifle, it's hardly worth messing with unless you're buying a complete upper that has the muzzle device pinned and welded before you ever get it.

From what I understand of constructive possession, and again forgive any ignorance on my part, is you can have the short barreled upper as long as you dont have a lower correct? I planned to get all the upper parts together first and then send them to Adco to have the comp pinned and welded before I planned on buying the lower reciever or lower parts at all.

Ater looking at Marylands gun laws, since im not 21, I can only buy an HBAR as there not-regulated. If I ever buikd my own in the future im coming back to this list. :)
