This may be a dumb question but I'm looking at buying my first AR15 and was looking at one with a flat-top rail with the rail on the gas block but no sights. Does anybody know if it will be difficult to install and sight in flip-up sights on that?

Thanks

they make flip up sights specifically for the gas block

i had no trouble sighting in the rifle with 2 flip ups

Theses guys have good stuff. They often have some pretty good package deals going too.

Kind of hard to see in this pic, but the BUIS (folded down) are theirs, as well as the cantilevered mount.

The sight installs in about 10 seconds, and sights-in just as a permanently mounted sight. You will need one if you install a scope. Then, you have co-witness with scope and iron sights

There is a flipup sight available that attatches to most rail systems, try bushmaster.com ar15products.net or something like that, theyre all over the place.

I just went through this search myself. I bought both GG&G and MI (Midwest Industries). MI is less expensive and good quality. GG&G a little better quality and more expensive. I looked at ARMS also but choose to try MI and GG&G. I disreguarded Troy sights due to cost. For me I needed one set up to be at same rail sight and am using MI for this. They have a front sight that is the right hight if the sights are on the same rail as opposed to a gas block front sight that needs to be a little taller.

i personally prefer a permanently attached front sight on my ar's, however you will have no issue getting a flip up front sight to fit in the gas block.
