I live in Massachusetts where the "new" guns you want may not me available, so, I want my 1st. AR15, and the choices I know that are available new are:

Bushmaster
S&W M&P
DPMS

I have shot a 3 yr. old Bushmaster and 1 yr. old DPMS. Of these 2 guns I liked the Bushmaster better because it had no FTF's and the DPMS had 2 FTF's in 100 rounds (maybe a fluke).

I have never fired the S&W M&P so, I have no opinion.

The most important thing to me is reliability, The last thing I want is a gun that has even 2 FTF's out of 100 rounds when I go shooting.

I would just move to another state.

Kidding, I have the bushmaster and love it. I have shot the S&W too, not bad but not my favorite.

Bushmaster and DPMS are owned by the same company. I think the Bushmaster line is a bit better and do have one. Compared with the S&W, I am not sure. I can only say I have had good experience with my Bushmaster. I also own Colts, and while the Colts are a bit better made, all the AR's shoot well with both factory and the reloads.

Sigbear - where are you in MA? I definitely recommend getting a pre-ban Colt. If you're after a full-length rifle, I have a pre-ban Colt Competition HBAR that I may be selling or trading away shortly. PM me if you're interested.
