Hello All,

I want to eventually build a couple AR15 rifles (a 16'' and a 20''), but I cannot afford to right now. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to purchase two lowers now, just to be on the safe side AWB-wise. So, what are some good brands to look into? I'm interested in both "good enough" and "the best".

Also, any thoughts on the idea that the lower doesn't really matter all that much? I've heard this before, and would appreciate your thoughts.

Additionally, could someone clear up the differences between "M4", "pistol", "rifle", etc. receivers? Aren't they all the same?

Finally, having the lowers will allow me to buy a full build kit from say Del-ton to make a complete rifle OR let me mix and match various makers of parts, correct? For example, I could have a Spike's lower, LMT upper, Magpul stock, etc. all on one gun?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I like to get fresh ideas, and discussion is always good. Thanks a bunch.

In most cases, a lower is a lower. They all start of in one of a few places where they are forged, and they get sent to companies who finish machine them and slap on a roll mark. The only time you will notice a difference will be between forged lowers or ones milled from a billet. Even then the difference is mostly cosmetic. Just get whatever is least expensive unless your really want a billet lower.

If you buy a stripped receiver you can make a pistol, rifle, or whatever you want our of it.

AR-15 parts are compatible with any lower. You could use the Del-ton kit or piece something together yourself. Either way it will work.
