I'm probably going to be in the market for an AR in the upcoming months (trying to build one before November) and I had a question about the color of the Del-Ton upper finish.

I'm thinking of buying a separate lower with a rifle kit from Del-Ton. I'd like to put together a rifle whose finish matched between the upper and lower receivers.

I'm pretty sure that the Stag Arms lower finish matches Del-Ton's. I'm also considering a Mega lower, but I'm not sure if the finish would match the color of the Del-Ton upper. I've heard that the color of Mega lowers is unique.

The obvious answer would just be to buy a Del-Ton lower but I'd like to add that I would rather purchase the Mega, or rather the Coleman Tyler (Mega also makes it), because of the nicer engraving. I'd also want to specifically find out about the Stag Arms lower since I want to buy one for a gift for someone that will probably be also using a Del-Ton kit as well.

This is where I plan on buying the lower from: http://www.colemantyler.com/products.php?cat=122

What I'm basically asking is, what is a good lower/lowers that you guys know would match the Del-Ton finish? Price range ~$100

i have't see a Del-tol kit but if you think the finish match i may get one to finish my project

Anybody else try either the Stag lower or Mega lowers with a Del-Ton kit?

For all that have responded, thanks so far.

Stag lower, Del-Ton upper on my carbine.

We have another Del-Ton A3 on a Stag, but I need to take a new pic. Let me know if you need it.

Doug, is the color match pretty good? It looks good on the picture but due to the angle of the upper, it's a little hard to be sure.

Anybody have a picture of the Mega or Coleman Tyler with a Del-Ton upper? Getting some info on that setup would probably settle the issue for me.

The finish is about the same. Nothing is perfect, but I can't see any real difference.

Here are 2 Del-Ton kits on Stag lowers:

I would say that the last 8 lowers have been Stag. We use them for the quality of manufacture and fit/fininsh. Some of the various uppers (LMT, Modle 1, M&A) are not perfectly matched. You may note a slight difference in color of the pictured upper/lower. These rifles are my soldier son's, and he takes care of them in a similar way he took care of his M4 while he was deployed. I prefer to wipe down the outside of the upper/lowers with CLP, which will even out the finish look.

So this is what I know so far

Perfect/Near Perfect Matches:
Anvil Arms
Stag Arms
Doublestar
Noveske
Spike Tactical

Very Slightly Off:
Mega/Coleman Tyler
DPMS

Anybody have any info on other brand lowers? I also might be considering DPMS. I know that there has to be someone on here with a DPMS/Del-Ton AR.

This is what I found from scowering AR15.com

It's a Spike Tactical Lower with a Del-Ton Upper. It looks like a pretty good match.

Sarduy, I got a confirmation on a Spike tactical lower. AR15.com says that it's a good match to a Del-Ton so rest assured. From my research, buying a Del-Ton upper is a good purchase.

Anybody else on here have one with a lower not mentioned above and would want to help me find a lower to match the color?

No I'm not going to be that anal, but since I do have a choice, I'd rather have it look nicely put together.

My Delton middy and DoubleStar lower matches just fine. I really have no complaints about either.

I wanted a neat engraving. Del-Ton lowers have a pretty lame one.

From my research, I think I'll go with a Stag lower. They're cheap and, since I want to go white tail hunting for the first time this year, a deer engraving does suit me.

Thanks for the help guys.

Mega lowers with a Del-Ton kit
Yes, BUT I have found about a 1/16 of an inch play. I was told it would not matter but that its just a pet peive type of thing. Im sure the accu-wedge will clear up this wobble. And the finish is pretty darn close. If I remember correctly the Upper has a more polished finish than the flat coating on the lower.(Its so close I personally dont mind at all, but this was also one of my concerns. Anyone who dosent know it was put together dosent notice at all. I have to get some pictures.
