Just wondering about peoples opinions. EOtech holo or aimpoint? Will be on a RRA midlength. Thanks

edit: yeah this should be in the optics forum :)

Both work pretty well, but I find the EOTech is faster to acquire, better field of view/situational awareness when using it, and I like the dot & reticle format for fast close range shooting.

prefer the EOtech myself, faster, cheaper, didn't have to buy a seperate mount that tends to loosen. steve's 019.JPE

As with anything, its really more a matter of personal choice and experience with them.

I prefer the Aimpoints. They are all expensive, then again, what would you trust your life to, a $100 Tasco, or a $385 Aimpoint? Is the difference between the Eotechs really even worth arguing over?

I find the Aimpoints a lot more natural and easier to shoot with. They tend to mount lower on the gun, give a normal cheek weld, and when I shoulder the rifle, the dot appears on the target just where I'm looking. I also like that I can keep the front cover closed and set the dot to one brightness so it doesnt wash out going from dark to light or vice versa. It also eliminates the need for a killflash(which drive me nuts anyway) and totally eliminates any flash from the front.

I always seem to be looking for the dot/reticule on the heads up type sights and then the target. They also usually sit to high, at least for me, making it hard to shoot naturally with and they are usually are harder to cowitness, if at all. With the Aimpoints, you can usually get them to cowitness with the right mount/ring.

Whats the battery life on the Eotechs these days? The Aimpoint M2's run 24/7 for about 10,000 hours and the M3's 50,000. I dont know why they even bother to put a switch on them, I just leave mine on. I do change all the batteries in everything in the house, twice a year, when I change the smoke alarms. I have yet to have to change an Aimpoint battery because it was dead though.

Put a compact ACOG (1.5 x 24) on an M4gery a few weeks ago. Getting on to flying birds and jackrabbits is a piece of cake. Have used it from 10 to 200 yards and could not ask for better. Pricey @ $700 but it's a quantum leap in sighting ability.

For what it is worth I have gone to EOTECH sights on all my evil black rifles. I have three 512 systems & I really like them. They have yet to fail. They mount very low on my AR flat top system. The iron sight co-witness toward the center of the EOTECH.

On my AK systems (KTR03S) I use a GG&G quick release lever ($85.00). The iron sights will not co-witness on my AK’s/KTR’s.

As far as battery life is concerned I think it is less than with the AIMPOINT but long enough to not be of concern (at least for me).

I think the AA battery EOTECH is heavier that the AIMPONT but I doubt if it is by much. The N battery model EOTECH is about the same weight IIRC.

Whatever you choose be it AIMPONT or EOTECH you will have top quality gear.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to shoot both sight systems for quite some time before ultimately going with EOTECH.

Besides EOTECH is based in Ann Arbor, MI. M-GO-BLUE, Go Wolverines!

I'm a total novice when it comes to AR15's. I went w/ the EOTech 512 and after sighting it in at 50 yards, I know I made the right choice!

Trijicon!

Check out a Trijicon Reflex. No batteries, tough as nails, you can choose from several different reticle models. Tritium keeps it lit at night.

I recently got the Bushnell sight from Midway, as mentioned above by Doc2005, it works very well and at a very reasonable price.

Trijicon reflex sight

I put a trijicon reflex sight with the ar15 handle mount on my DPMS panther.
The weapon has a 16" barrel and a collapsible stock. The reflex sight cowitnesses perfectly with the iron sights. All in all a nice short easy to use rifle that can line up on target real quick. Topped of with a tactical sling it is a great option for building clearing type activities. One of these days I've got to figure out how to post pictures for all to see.
