Wow that is different from the Turkish made AR410 (which will NOT snap onto an existing lower).

Who makes it?

Its from Safir Arms which is a turkish company. Looks cool, but I'll stick to my Mossy 535 and 870 7 shot.

Yes you will, but it will not feed through the mag well. Bohica arms has one coming out in the next month or so in 12 gauge. He says he will have pictures up in a couple of weeks. Chris states it will use Saiga magazines and he will be producing a 30 round drum for it.

Well shucks...

I thought we were about to have a "Masterkey for HD" topic. And I was looking forward to it, because I've never seen such a thread around here.

As for the OP, I think the shotgun AR concept is interesting, as is the shotgun AK concept already popularized by Saiga. However, I don't really see the point. When I grab my AK (or, if I were to grab an AR), it is because I want a rifle, and all the associated advantages in range, accuracy, versatility, ect. If I wanted the limited range, accuracy, versatility of a shotgun, I could and would just grab my 870. Turning a rifle into a shotgun seems like a step backwards more than forwards to me, so I'll abstain from owning one.

Based on the MD20, I would imagine that a 30 round drum will simply be too big and unwieldy.

I have a .410 saiga. It is fun and very easy to shoot with low recoil. 5 pellet 00 buckshot is nothing to sneeze at. For those who find a 12 gauge too unwieldy or its recoil too sever I think it makes a good little home defense gun, particularly stocked with a higher capacity mag.

I like that little AKM platform 410 and imagine that an AR platform one would be more ergonomic and even handier. That said my Saiga cost $200. A simple conversion on one runs $150 or so making it roughly half the price of a complete 410 AR.

It will be interesting to see if these things prove reliable and to see what mags cost.

A buddy of mine has one of the Saiga 12 shotguns (based on the AK). While it works well with the box magazines, he noted that the real problem was in keeping the mags loaded. The spring in the magazine tends to compress the shells over time, taking them out of round. That results in having rounds that won't feed into the chamber. So in my buddy's opinion, the setup isn't good for HD because you can't keep the mags loaded for extended periods of time.

I would anticipate the AR shotgun having similar problems with box magazines as well and hence having the same shortcoming for HD.

See the saiga 12 cheers and jeers thread for commentary on that.
