I'm looking to replace my stock trigger and I noticed that the replacements come in either large or small pin. I have no idea which one I need. My AR is a standard 20" Bushmaster if that helps any.

Also, any recommendations on which trigger to get? Do I have to pay the $200 for a Jewell or is the JP or McCormick just as good?

Thanks!

Colt bastardized things with large pins used in the fire control part of Civilian AR's. All other mfg. continue what could be considered mil spec with the small pins!

You have a small pin trigger.

As for different triggers, I couldn't comment really except to say that aftermarket match triggers are a common source of reliability issues in AR15 rifles.

You need the small pin trigger. Also known as 0.150" pins.

Large pins are 0.170" and only found on Colt rifles.

I really like the RRA two stage trigger (~$100). It dropped right in to my Bushy lower, is non-adjustable, and is a very nice trigger.

Unless you plan on building a full out match or hunting rifle the Rock River two stage is about the best thing going for a general use two stage trigger.

I don't care for Jewell or Accuracy Speaks triggers, not because they are bad triggers, they aren't.
They just require too much fine tuning that for a Gunsmith, they aren't cost effective, profitable installations.
These triggers are not propositions for the home tinkerer either IMHO.

I can speak from experience on the Jewell trigger. I have one in my RRA 24" Varmit bull that I use strictly for paper punching. It is a well made trigger but if I set it under 3 1/2 - 4 lbs., I will get frequent double fires. As long as you are willing to shoot single shot, you can set it as light as you want. If I had to do it again I believe I would get the RRA 2 stage tuned (aftermarket) trigger. I do not believe semi-automatics and very light triggers are a good match.

I'm quite pleased with my JP AR single-stage trigger.

Large-pin for my Colt, very crisp and clean, but illegal for service rifle competition. It didn't bother me at the time because the rifle also has a removable carry handle, which disqualified it for service rifle, too. (Now that rule, I believe, has been changed)

No doubling or reliability problems with mine to date. Must've been one of the good ones, I guess. :scrutiny:

I've got about 2000 rounds thru a McCormick single-stage without issue, although I've heard Internet rumors of occasional (unsubstantiated, usually)issues. My favorite professional (really) gunsmith loves the Jard, and I've got one on order.

My used DPMS came with a Chip Mccormick single stage. The rifle eventually started doublefiring at random with mil-spec (Q3131a) ammo/primers. The dealer/gunsmith that sold it to me is in the process of retrofiting the rifle with a standard trigger. The Chip Mccormick's can get sick like any other single stage AR trigger, Buy the RRA NM.

+1 for the JP single stage trigger. Put one on my AR and have not had a single problem, just enjoyable shooting with an excellent trigger.

I have several Jewell's and love mine for the AR. Set the overtravel too tight and you'll set yourself up for a bumpfire, but my second stage is set to about 20 ounces.
