I want a colt 1911 series 70 and a bcm 20" ar-15, but I really don't care which one comes first. But I found a RRA ar-15 with two stage trigger for $850 and offered the guy $700 for it. He hasn't got back to me yet and I'm wondering if this is a good enough deal I should just settle for this ar-15 instead of the bcm and not get the colt yet.

If you choose ar-15 on the poll what price do you think I should take it for?

Right now is a buyer's market for ARs. They're cheaper than I've seen them in quite some time, and the price is bound to come back up over the next few months.

Relatively speaking, Colt prices are pretty stable, and shouldn't fluctuate terribly over the next few months, unless you've found an extraordinary deal on one.

$700.00 seems reasonable for the AR, but I'm not really an AR guy, and not very familiar with any brands beyond Colt and Olympia. A lot of the other members will have a better idea of how good a deal the AR really is.

There is an old saying in military, police, HD, SD circles that goes something like...

"I use my sidearm to fight back to the rifle I should have had in the first place"

Get the rifle first and use another sidearm (assuming you have another) in the meantime IMHO.

Get the rra rifle. Pistols are great but a pistol can't match a rifle. But I warn you now ARs have a tendacy to reproduce in ones safe. You really. Can't stop at one. You get one for everything and it soon happens u need one for long range and an upper sitting without a lower gets kinda ugly and sad so u buy another lower and this cycle keeps occurring. But the great part is 1911s are not going to disappear and neither will colt. So that purchase can wait a long time.

$700 seems like a lowball offer to me. $850 is probably approximately right, with the 2-stage trigger.

Anyway, if you get an RRA, you should really put a BCM bolt carrier group in it. Then sell the RRA one.

You are in Rifle Country, ask the same question in the handgun forum and you'll likely get a completely different answer. ;) The AR was my choice, that said I am not a big handgun guy. If I were getting an AR ( with DGI) I would probably roll the dice on a CMMG bargain bin rifle and save a few bucks (go for about $600.00 IIRC). They have received very favorable reviews, and I believe you will have difficulty besting that deal.

I don't own any handguns (nor do I want to). Between the two that you listed, I would go with the AR15, but I would rather have an M1A/M14.

What is not to be understood about 20"?
What is not to be understood about Bravo Company? You're the one that started changin' stuff. :scrutiny: Furthermore, you never explicitly stated that you were intent upon a 20in. bbl; pretty sure that everyone here is just trying to help. moon.gif

Well in my case I bought my Colt GM Series 70 in 1976 and didn't get an AR until 2009. You might want do it differently. :D

The BCM is a better rifle than a RRA but nothing terribly wrong with the latter. If you like it and can get it for that price, go for it. As mentioned above, if the bolt carrier group doesn't look up to snuff you could buy one from BCM and sell the RRA BCG. Then your AR should be closer to Tier 1.

BTW, you have excellent taste in handguns and rifles!

+1 on the BCM.
I'd build a BCM. 1911's aren't a safe bet.

I don't see too many good 1911's being built anymore. Maybe those that know how, died, or are charging top dollar at Wilson, or custom gun shops.

Kimber, Sig, RRA, Colt, Smithy all seem to be selling lemon 1911's by the dozen lately.
On budget 1911 I've been impressed with is Dan wesson.
