Are 300 Win Mag Armor Piercing Bullets Legal?

I bought some 30 Caliber 163 grain AP bullets from some guy off the internet. Can I load these up in 300 Winchester Mag? From what I have read they are illegal in a 308, but these bullets were pulled from 30/06 cartridges.

So they are legal in 30/06, but not in 308, so how about 300 Win Mag?

The controversy seems to revolve around AP in .308 and handgun ammo. (although I think reloading .308AP is legal)

Plenty of people have used the 163gr pulls in 300 win mag. Do a search and you will find some interesting posts with pix of penetration depths on steel plate etc.

Just curious but if you do, How would anyone know????

I've yet to see the ATF inspecting guns at a range let alone the ammo.

OTOH if you plan to shoot at silouhette target s with it the folks who own the targets might object.

One thing I might be concerned about in a .300 win mag is the effect on the barrel life which is not that great anyway.

I don't think they're "illegal" when loaded for your own use in .308. I'd have to do some digging to find the regs, but this topic has been covered before.
