this is somthing i read today and have a question about....question is below

" Today the reloader for modern handgun or rifle cartridges has an excellent selection of very good bullets, available in many calibers, from which to choose. Although there are over a hundred current rifle cartridges alone, many of them use the same caliber (diameter) of bullets. The .30 Carbine, .30-30, .300 Savage, .308 Winchester, .30-06, and various .300 Magnums all use .308" diameter bullets"

so what this is saying is that i can pull a 308 bullet and put it in a 30-06 case and fire it? thanks.

Absolutely. The .308 and .30-06 both use .308" diameter bullets.

I reload for 5 calibers that all use that bullet...which simplifies my bullet purchasing considerably!

Yup.

30 cal is 30 cal. 6mm is 6mm. (of course there are exceptions, but if you read a load manual it'll all make sense)

thanks, still trying to figure out what im doing here :) i have a bunch of "30 carbine" a friend gave me and i was thinking of using my bullet puller on them and useing the carbine to reload my 30-06. thanks again

poor man,

The 30 Carbine bullets will work in your 30-06 but they are going to be VERY light. You could punch paper with them and maybe go after a varmint if they are at all accurate, but you'd be better off to get a heavier bullet. 125 or 130gr. for varmints and 150+ for deer and larger game.

You can do this safely only if you have an appropriate powder charge. For instance, if you pull a 168 grain .308 bullet and then load it into a .30-06 case containing the factory loaded powder for a 110 grain bullet, that's most likely unsafe.

Twist rate

You are Good with the size. But that small bullet may not be happy with the faster twist rate likely in your 06.
A 1 in 14 to 1 in 16" twist is more in line for the shorter lighter round. It may group it may not. If not it is the twist rate.
I have fired 125 grain Nosler BTs in my .308 but never got real good accuarcy. About 1" was the best a 1 in 10" twist would do in my gun.
I also smoked some 110 grainers out of my .300 Win Mag. 1" plus was all I could get there. At 200 yards they really get wide.
