Just ordered a box of .44 mag from cheaper than dirt- ordered the cheapest I could find...just wondering if the gun[desert eagle] is picky in what ammo is works best with vs. jamming alot with others

(just would hate to start off poorly with such a nice/expensive gun :))

thx

My buddy picked up a DE several months ago. It has been reliable since shot one. The one thing we noticed was that it just seemed to function smoother w/ hotter rounds...the hotter the better ;) We figured it was bacuse of the heavy slide taking full advantage of the energy the hotter rounds could generate.

Make sure you are using jacketed rounds with no exposed lead at the base!

I loaded my own just to be sure for the .41 Magnum. And the hotter, the better. I remember reading something at the DE Forum that some factory loads are not strong enough to work reliably, but it might have just been a limp wristed shooter! :D

What 10-Ring and WhoKnowsWho said is correct. Full power JACKETED ammo will do you just fine; we had several flavors for rent at the range I used to work at. Keep the gas cylinder and piston clean, pay special attention to the spring guide thingy that is held in place by the piston to the slide; keep it nice and lubricated and then just shoot the heck out of it.

Like QuarterBoreGunner mentioned, only use full power jacketed loads and NEVER lead. We had a list of recommended ammo that would function reliably in the D.E. and to not use anything not on it. We had more troubles with .44 D.E. rentals than anything else.

QuarterBoreGunner - you didn't happen work at the place who's company name ended in "eye" did you?

Of the two DE's i've fired, they both had problems with jamming, i suspect this is because they were rentals and probably had hundreds of rounds through them between cleanings. Being gas operated, that would be a porblem.

just curious, why only jacketed rounds?

(hoping I didn't order lead only rounds...hmm, would it hurt to run just 50 of em through, or perhaps not worth ruining a $400 barrel, to not waste $13 in ammo?)

If by "picky" you mean "do they frequently leave half a Blazer case in the chamber, necessitating a trip to the gunsmith's?" then, yes. :uhoh:

There's a gas port in the barrel. Non-jacketed bullets can leave lead deposits in the port, blocking it, and turning the DE into a single-shot pistol.

Magnum Research will clean out the gas ports... for a price.

Best bet if you want to shoot factory ammo, contact them, and they will have a list to let you know what's good.

great thx for help

btw contacted cheaperthandirt and they were very promt in switching out the .44 mag I ordered for a dif type, so kudos to their customer service :)
