I know this is a cringe worthy thread title, but I ask it because of something I heard in the news today.
Earlier today, while listening to a report about the Chicago Bears' Terry "Tank" Johnson (and if you haven't heard about him, Geico would like to do a story about you and your rock) his lawyer, during a news conference after his court appearance in a request to play in the Super Bowl (after being nabbed on numerous firearms violations and breaking probation twice), said that she believed his firearms related charges would be dropped because his firearms were registered in Arizona.
Of course, you need to take anything a lawyer says with a tankard of salt, but I was interested to hear her state that his firearms were "registered" in Arizona.
While I'm not sure while this would be the case, considering Johnson is a felon three times over (with more than two firearms related felonies), but I am curious if individuals really have to "register" their firearms in Arizona. I've always thought that Arizona was one of the more liberal state regarding firearms with good laws regarding access is CCW, NFA, and just about anything else without too many silly restrictions for honest people.
Whatever is the outcome of this, even if his firearms really were "registered" (I hate that word...) , I don't understand how that would negate the fact that he did not have an Illinois FOID card, which is required to TOUCH a firearm in the state of Illinois.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
