Ladies and gents,

I picked up a couple HKS SPEEDLOADERS for my Rugers SP101 and GP100. When I lock the rounds into the GP100 loader they are snug and I am confident that they will not fall out in my pocket. The SP101 loader, however, does not seem to lock as securely. There is no obvious point of locking shut. It appears that the bullets may come out of the loader. Has anyone had a similar experience with HKS SPEEDLOADERS?

I will not carry HKS Speedloaders in my pocket because the knob may inadvertently turn, unlock and spill the cartridges. HKS speedloaders can be carried securely in belt pouches.

You may want to try Safariland Comp 2 speedloaders for more secure pocket carry, and quicker reloads due to its ingenious design. You only need to align the cartridges into the chambers, push in....no need to turn any knobs, and the cartridges fall into place.

IMO Hks speed loaders are fine and not likely to loose their rounds. I've carried these speed loaders in coat and jacket pockets when carrying a revolver over the last 30 years and have never had them loose their rounds.

There are 2 types of loaders, one holds the shells firmly and the other looser. The SP101 loaders also work for S&W J frame .38's and .357 mags and the shells have a little rattle movement to allow them to fit in the various pistols and function well.

The Safariland comp II's are a bit faster on the reload but they're not as compact. You need to develop proper technique and practice a bit to load quickly with any speed loader.

I have been a law enforcement officer since the late 70's. Back then we carried revolvers and speedloaders. I have used HKS speedloaders since that time with no problems. When in uniform I used carriers, in plain clothers - coat pocket. Only draw back I have is they are a little bulky for jeans in the summer. I will usually carry loose rounds in a front pocket when I am off duty.

I have used them forever whith never a problem, until recently.

However, I just bought three new ones for a J-frame a few months ago, and they are certainly not up to the quality of my older ones.

All three of the new ones have almost no tension of the detent balls that prevent them from turning, and I am also concerned they might puke in my pocket.

I've used them for years with no problem. Never had one open unintentionally. Much better construction than the Safariland loaders.

Ahhh, this could be our problem.
