Gentlemen,
..if she gets into the White House in '08? We all joke about CMP getting them out the door before '08. I wonder...The Dem's are already working on a permanent assault weapons ban. Some parts of the new bill state that any firearm that takes a MAGAZINE or CLIP device would be Banned. They state that there might be a grandfather part of the bill. Here in PA their bill states that if you own one of these types of firearms, they must be put on a list and you will pay a fee for each one you own every year. Don't think it wouldn't come to this. Look what happened in England and Australia. Also, they just took them from the people in New Orleans. They just might have the power to do it. All your firearms taken without any compensation. What about many of you guys who, like me, collect them? What do you think might happen?

Thanks again,

Since the first incarnation of a Klinton in the White House did all he could to kill off the CMP, I would say that both M1's would be in serious danger.

Any and everything with a military lineage is in danger!!

Military lineage being anti speak for any weapon that is effective, or any weapon carried by the military past or present, or any weapon that could possibly be carried by the military in the future:cuss: :banghead: !!!!

Wonder if their definition would outlaw the hunting bolt-action rifles that take box magazines (after you open the floorplate).

What about regular bolt action rifles? Didn't Carlos Hathcock use a Winchester Model 70 .30-06?

They already banned the M-1 Carbine in NJ. The first gun I will buy when I leave this state is an M-1 Carbine. Let NJ be an example of how bad it can get. They will not be happy until we are left with sling shots. Oh wait those are also banned in NJ.

These things really tick me off! Ban a weapon because they are Scairy looking?!?! that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard! and now they are trying to have it happen again, but for good?! :cuss: All the evidence from the first assault weapons ban showed that it did not deter crime at all.....I mean how often have crimes been comitted where assault rifles were used? Personally I can only think of 1. The bank heist in California many years ago....and even then they were using ILLEGAL assualt rifles, do they really think that a ban would have stopped that? This is just another anti-gun "crime prevention" ban that is really a disguise for those who just dont want america to have guns. Anyone with a 2nd grade education can understand, if someone is going to commit a violent crime.....the last thing they are going to do is make sure they are doing it with a LEGAL weapon. All the ban did was put innocent people in jail because they had "illegal" firearms, even though they werent using them to commit crimes. Plus with so many countries that aren't exactally out friends right now, keeping your citizens armed is a pretty smart idea. If it even makes it out of the commette and to a floor vote. someone call me, Ill gladly match to washington and picket with you. No one, foreign or domestic shall ever try to take my Garand away from me! :cuss:

They will take my M1 Carbines from my cold dead hands........ I will not compromise with my Constitutional Rights which so many Americans have died to win and preserve !!!

Lots of griping going on here,

any phonecalls and letters happening ?

Writing a letter to my congress critter....Julia Carson:barf: :barf: :barf:

Even though her staff will promptly round file it. I actually think it will ban anything semi-auto based on some of the last language I saw. But it has been several days.

Having the Garand and M1 carbine banned isn't crap.

I read somewhere that the highly popular Ruger 10/22 would fall under the ban as well. Why? Because the wording will not spell out "centerfire" or set a caliber limit.

The 10/22, being a semi-auto that is fed by detachable magazine, will satisfy the requirements of being banned.

Bolt, single shot, and pump-actions may be all that are allowed come 2008. And those will probably be subject to restrictions, as well.

Wrote and called. Going to visit tommorow and sit in the waiting room till I talk to someone other then a receptionist. I figure an LEO saying "guns are good" might be worth something.

For the record I will happily vote for pretty much anyone other then Hillary.

The AWB II woud be a mixed bag for the M1 family.

The ban stops any new manufacturing or importation of said rifles. It does NOT however, stop the sale or transfer of those AW which were legally owned prior to its enacture (they are grandfathered in). So the AWB really hurts worst any firearm that is in current production/importation.

First the bad news, as Springfield is the only one I know making any new rifles in thr M1 family, there would be no new SA M1A :cuss: :cuss:

But, the good news, if you want to call it that, is all the existing stockpiles of Garands and Carbines that are out there would still be purchasable. And we are talking huge numbers here. CMP will still be able to sell us all the lovely Carbines and Garands they have.

Keep in mind gun grabbing politicians tend not to be gun people, they make up junk science reports, ignore facts and verifiable statistics and rely on emotion and fear inspired by their propaganda to push their agenda. They are also not stupid , an armed citizenry presents the single biggest obstacle to absolute government control. Criminals will always be able to get guns, but they kill each other and they attack, rob and kill citizens, but do not represent any type of unified threat to the government. This is why the 2nd amendment was put in place to begin with, not for hunters, not for competitions, but to protect a free society from tyranny. It is irrelevant what specific models of arms this will ban, HR1022 will make most any new semi auto illegal, the next one will go after pistols, then shotguns, then all rifles, then once the citizenry is disarmed the real agendas will start, the government will be in a position to rewrite the constitution if it wants, pass sweeping legislation to protect us from ourselves, and the only patriots that are left will be criminals. This probably wont even happen in our lifetimes, or even our childrens lifetimes, but if we do not fight it now it will happen. Those that "represent" us in washington are trying to take away the means to defend ourselves and our families from harm, violating the constitution and the principles that this country stands for and was founded on. We cannot just sit back and hope they don't take away our favorite rifle, we have to fight and fight hard send letters, protest, appear at hearings and take your rights seriously, the government will not protect them so we must.

HR1022, should it pass, is just the camel's nose under the tent. You can rest assured that the Sarah Brady, Schumer, Hillary types are chomping at the bitt! They will not be happy until all guns are banned.

One problem that we, as gun owners face is the fact that there are several disciplines within the gun owning community. Too often, these groups (hunters, shooters, hunter/shooter, shotgun sports, rifle enthusiasts, pistol shooters) see their own interests as paramount. We must hang together , or, as has been said, "we shall all hang separately".

The opposition's strategy is to divide and conquer; remember the Saturday night specials and the first "assault weapon" bans. These would never have passed had the majority of the gun owning community felt that "their ox was not being gored" and did nothing. Let us learn a valuable lesson from our past defeats and UNITE as GUN OWNERS, not a sub-culture that owns guns!

There are only 4 million NRA members in the US when estimates of gun owners is some 200,000,000. Folks, whether we agree with all of NRA's positions or not, they are the strongest lobby group we have, based on numbers alone. Every gun owner should be a member of NRA, and other pro-firearm groups, such as GOA, JPFO, etc. Membership in any of the pro-gun organizations costs less than a box of ammo.

Sorry, I don't have links to the others, perhaps someone can post these.

What can we do, as individuals?
1) Write and call your representatives, even if they are anti gun. Enough calls does get their attention.

2) Join NRA & other pro-2A groups; our strength lies in numbers!

3) Think of yourself as a GUN OWNER first and a hunter or hunter/shooter, etc. etc. secondly and communicate that to your representatives.

Sorry for the long post, but we can head this off if we become united and pro-active. If we sit idly by because our personal preference in firearms is not currently under attack, it is just a matter of time until they whittle off one segment at a time and our freedom is gone.

Regards,
hps
