I recall someone saying the anti's idea of gun safety is when all guns are safely encased in concrete.
Both of my grandfathers are/were WW2 vets. Each of them had a brother who was also a WW2 vet. One on Mom's side had the Garand in the New Caledonia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. The other on Dad's side, he told me he had the Carbine and as many mags as he could get, but after Normandy he was back to his specialty of driving heavy trucks which was what he was doing at the Bulge. His carbine and ammo rode in the truck; he didn't have to carry it all. They had to fight their way from Antwerp to the outfits they were re-supplying in and around Bastogne. So ya'll might say I have a family connection to the weapons my grandfathers depended on. Same goes for the M1911A1.
What I see happening is the Dems got real quiet about "gun control" after they got ousted from the majority back in 2000. They all said "gun control" was political suicide. But when they got a really narrow majority in the '06 mid-term elections, it's like they thought they had an instant mandate for "gun control" again. I think just because they didn't talk it where we could hear didn't mean they weren't plotting and planning. So we've just seen the monster rear its ugly head once again.
Ummm... depends on the Republican. They're not all pro-gun, pro-2A. John McCain comes to mind... I think he's not a bad guy, but we just don't agree on guns. And Pres. Bush has a shotgun he uses for bird hunting, but the 2A's not about hunting. I'm sure we can all list more.
Bottom line... if it's shoots, they want it gone one way or another. The question is can we beat 'em back from it and take back the majority in '08 before we lose it all.
