Are Remington 597's good guns?

I have one and it is almost as accurate as my CZ452. Some days equal. The only issue I've had was mangling the little spring on top by the mag well. I looked all over and it doesn't seem to be available. Nonetheless, it is a fun rifle.

Gun runs good. After we picked up the rifle. We went to Arbys for lunch. Been a year since we ate there lol. I detail stripped the gun. Cleaned and lubed it. Mounted a scope. She picked out one of my Simmons 22 mag scopes. Zeroed it in at 25 yards. Then she had fun picking clays off at 50. She had to learn the hold over on them. Good practice.
Good choice. Glad she is happy.

If you threw away the rich aftermarket the 10/22 has and only gave it the aftermarket the 597 has, the 597 would be the better rifle….IMO.

They are more accurate with less fussing. Less expensive all around. The barreled action is lighter. Better open sights if they have them. Factory last shot bolt hold open. They tend to fit more shooters better. (What is the deal with the 10/22 stock geometry? I don’t know how anyone uses the open sights)

I will concede the 10/22 has a better magazine.

I second this, wholeheartedly.
When I didn’t know anything, I went and looked at rimfires. Betwixt the two, the 597 was clearly better. Nicer seeming quality to it, better fit. Came with a scope that is still on it because it isn’t terrible.
Little did I know, there would be no customization for me. Yet, it hasn’t needed any.

I’d like a 10/22, but I’ll build mine myself from better components, without needing to throw away the factory parts and mystery stock.

I wish I had gotten the green one.;)
