Are the new Smith and Wesson 629 Pachmayr Grips more recoil reducing than ones from 1999?

So, I just purchased a Smith & Wesson 629 Mountain Gun with rubber Pachmayr grips however the gun was made in 1999 so the grips aren't the same as the current 629 Pachmayr grips.

I'm just wondering if the new S&W grips are an improvement enough in recoil reduction to change to them?

Also, what are the current brand and model grips on the 629s, the website doesn't say.

I don't know that it applies to the situation you are noting but, I keep hearing in reviews how the new grip covers the grip-frame in the rear and is therefore considerably more comfortable to shoot relative recoil.

I know nothing from nuts about it - I just keep reading that sentiment and in fact, haven't noted seeing one of these covering grips yet.

Of course - I keep thinking they are Hogue grips anyhow so the depth of my potential incorrectness could be substantial.:)

Todd.

The rubber compound can break down and lose its "energy absorption" (my made up phrase). Maybe new grips will help, but an Alaskan can be a real "bear" to shoot!

Hogue Tamer are the grips on the current 629s.

FWIW, Pachmayr offers the Decelerator grips; they have absorbing air cushions along the backstrap and should also serve you well.
