I get exactly your frustration! You do your research, save your money and track down what you want. There is an expectation when buying new that a gun should be relatively flawless, not looking like it has a few hundred rounds down already. I am not talking necessarily about perfect fit and finish I have come to understand those days are gone. It’s more of an overall, it should look like a new Smith and Wesson, not a used gun.
 
IMHO there is no better S&W than 29 or 629 Classic DX. Period! Those revolvers are tested and making 1.5" on 50 yards. I believe that all DX models are with endurance package, with elongated bolt slot/notch on front side, see:

Also, I would go with revolvers with firing pin on hammer, no MIM parts on those.
