Are the Saiga rifles no longer imported? I'm referring to the 7.62x39 in the $200 range? I suppose no one brings the mags in, either?

Other than the Saiga, what is the next cheapest AK, that is better than a WASR?

Thanks.

I hear the importation is being taken over by Remington. Look for an increase in price as well.

What's better than a WASR? Anything.

Still lots of cheap AK's on forthehunt.com and auctionarms.com

Berg,

Remington is going to import the Saigas??? I knew they were importing the Baikals, but have not heard that about the Saigas.

It's true.

From what iv'e heard the reason is because our friendly neighborhood hmong Chi vang used one in his little fit in wisconsin.

I guess EAA isn't going to import them for that reason until they find another importer.

Again, this is just what i've heard so take it with a bit of salt.

EAA sold import rights to Remington. Remington decided to import the Baikal line but not the rest from Izhmash. They'll be renaming Baikal line as Spartans

Earliest I heard about it was a Nov 6th released note letter from EAA's website. Subsequent discussion has happened since then on Saiga forums and many have been buying up surplus from CDNN which has long since dried up by now to my knowledge.

On November 6, 2004 we let the cat out of the bag, so to speak. All of the guns we had been importing from Baikal of Russia (IZH models), will now be sold under the Spartan by Remington” name brand. We will continue to perform warranty work on the Baikal line. Spartan by Remington guns will be at a slightly higher price than similar EAA models, so buying an EAA model is a good investment since the price will only increase. If you are a dealer, stock up on all the EAA Baikal guns you can find and enjoy the profit. The change to Spartan by Remington was a positive change for the Baikal line and fully supported by EAA Corp. The Baikal plant in Russia will now be working with one of the oldest and largest names in the USA firearms business and we are proud to have had a part in this historic event.

When did that shooting incident take place? I find it difficult (but not impossible) that any given shooting situation is enough for someone to stop importing a profitable line. The timing, if close, might be coincidental and led some to believe A connects to B.

I am told that a Kentucky importer has picked up import rights to the Saiga semi-auto rifles, but haven't been able to get independent confirmation. In the meantime, I'm hanging on to three nice unfired Saiga's, and am happy with the increase in their value! :D

Okay, that is enough conjecture. :D

Here is the scoop. Remington is NOT the new importer. The new importer is out of Tennessee. Nothing is available yet. At this time they are not selling direct to dealers or wholesalers. They are in the process of setting up a few distributors. No, don't bother calling them unless you are prepared to drop SERIOUS amounts of cash to become a distributor. :)

Details will follow as they are available. But the Saigas are coming back.

And Saiga-12 8-round magazines better show up with the Saigas. People have waited long enough to start dabbling into the realm of R&Ding their own mags (with varying degrees of success).

Firefly Arms used to have a dirtcheap gunsmithing service which "assulterized" the Saiga-12. They stopped doing work though. The conversion is completely worth it in my opinion. I'll tell you this much though...with a recoil buffer and recoil pad installed, you can empty 5 rounds of full power 000 buckshot before the first shell hits the ground. That's good shootin' :D

The new Saiga importer is Russian American Arms in Louisville, KY. At last report, they had not received their license to import and were not yet doing business. See threads on the Saiga-12 forum.

Drake, it is further along than that, but I can't divulge any details.

the work I had heard from the local gunshop was that EAA should of read the contract a littel closer than they did. they thought that it was to allow rem to have the one line and they would still do the rest as normal. turns out that rem had put a no contest provision in the fine print and eaa could not import anything that would take away from rems business basicaly all long guns. now this is just gunshop info and have no way to confirm.

Correia

Since you're in the know...Will they import the 30 round Saiga mags too?

Also, will they import the Biathlon Basic .22 rifle?
Thanks,

David

Lots of unknowns right now. I don't know what they are getting yet. I'll be sure to post details as I know them. Sorry guys.

Russian American Armory Corporation
3038 Breckenridge Ln.
Suite 204
Louisville, KY 40220

Phone # is 812 752 2894, President of the company is Homer vanFleet.

First shipment expected to arrive around late August with distribution to dealers and distributors following that. They also say they will be importing "accessories", so hopefully that means mags.

I had a Saiga 7.62x39 on order for $199 for my son's Birthday back in February, but I cancelled it and bought him a Mini-14 instead... Shoulda kept the Saiga for myself! Man I hope they don't raise the price too much on these things... I won't pay $350+ for a Saiga... I'll save the extra $200 and buy an Arsenal!

I also would like to see them offered "converted" as well, but I imagine that will still be a WECSOG or gunsmith enterprise.

I passed on the Saigas when I first saw them and regret it now. I hope that the deal with Russian American Armory Corporation does not fall though. As long as the price does not increase dramatically, I will get one this time around. The only question is, which caliber.

I have much love for saigunovs and regret not getting one.

Saigunov =
Saiga 308 +
FAL mag conversion +
desporterized trigger assembly +
dragunov style AK stock

Have Saiga .308. Good stuff Maynard.

Need Saiga-12 and 20 round mags for the .308 (if they ever materialize).

I have 3 Saigas, I love them all and plan to buy more when they are imported again.

Can't speak highly enough about my Saiga. No hiccups in ammo, managable recoil, was cheap when it was available. A lot of people ignored them until they stopped being imported :neener: Mmm 8 rounders.
