I am looking for an affordable hunting lease near Houston...... I do not require a cabin, water , or electricity as I can bring my own camper.... I just need something affordable within a couple hour drive of Houston.... I'm not looking for trophy whitetails... I'm a meat hunter and really like hog hunting.....

I cant help you out with any land but I can give you a little helpful info. There are two words that do not go together and that is affordable and hunting lease. I have been looking for the same thing for the past couple of years and could not find anything. I was even looking as far as 8 hrs travel time one way. I decided to bite the bullet and shell out the money for a lease this year. It is not the greatest and is still by no means cheap. Good luck on your search.

There are plenty of deer in the Frelsburg area, which is round about where we hunt. And the deer are healthy. Brother took an 8-pointer last year. Can't really tell you if anybody leases out there; we hunt on a farm owned by a friend of the family.

Log onto to Georgia Pacific and Temple Inland websites. Look for recreational leases. You can get an entire lease within a few hours drive of your area for a surprisingly reasonable price. I had a lease east of Lufkin for a few years through Temple Inland. 150 acres, with 2 annual streams on it that cost me about $700 or so. If you know some people, that works out even better. You get with them, form a club and split the price. Takes a bit of research, but is WELL worth it.

Many of these areas are rustic and have not been hunted. They allow some modifications to the land. Really great programs.

The program has changed some for TI... Link is above. Still can lease through these folks though. Good luck.
