I want the gun to be reliable, light enough that my pants wont be pulled off, and easy to conceal These specs are desired for Conceal Carry. Im looking for a Commander length slide and barrel. (4.25 inch). Grip Frame with a magazine capacity of 7 rounds. Grip with bobtail also. I desire the barrel length of 4.25 since 3 inch guns are known for cycle trouble. I have searched for a shorter grip and cant find one. What i want is a commander slide with grip length of a kimber ultra......Is there anything factory built or with this be custom???

I like the SW Scandium, Kimber stainless raptor but no maker puts the commander slide with the shorter grip.;)

Any info will be appreciated

That is what Colt called the CCO when they built a few.

I think Kimber makes some 4" bull barrel guns with short butt.

Dan Wesson makes a 4.25" bobtail.

After that, the price starts going up, $1495 for a Fusion, more for a Baer Stinger.

BUT, you will not be able to buy a short butt with bobtail, that would not leave room for a mainspring unless you did major surgery on the Detonics design with vestigal grip safety filler plate.

Not a Taurus fan. I own ONE example. Taurus PT145 Mil Pro. Mine is compact, reliable and a lot more accurate than it should be. 10+1 in a very compact and light package.

You are not going to get much of a bobtail on an officer sized frame. There's just not much there to shave off. Dan Wesson makes a CCO that fits your description almost to the "T", and it is even bobbed, at least as much as can be bobbed off of an officer size grip. Kimber also makes a 4" CCO style weapon, but like you, I prefer 4.25" for a commander barrel.

fatalmove, I am fixin' to melt an Officers model and will semi-bob the frame/grip as much as posible and still have it hold the spring - it may just be a 1/4 inch or so, but it will help a little - I'll show ya' when it's done
good luck

Other CCO format '1911' models from other makers
not mentioned so far.

CC) = Officers Frame with Commander 4.25" barrel/slide.
Officers frame is 3/4" shorter in height so the need for the bottail
is greatly diminished for CCW. imho. Wilson Combat and others
make 7 round mags for Officers frame

Sig Sauer makes 3 with steel frames and the
C3 which has an alloy frame. The alloy frame is about 28 oz.
I think.

S&W at the SHOT show introduced their CCO format entry called
S&W 1911 Compact ES It's a nice one, with a Stainless Steel slide
matte finish, and black finished Scandium Alloy frame at 28 oz. It has
the beavertail, as well as three dot Novak sights. MSRP $1220? I saw
one cruising Gunbroker for $ 869 NIB which seems a screaming deal to me.

Randall - I want a Compact ES next....

if you want something commander size check the out the STI Guardian, if your looking for something smaller they also make the Escort

You may have to make a trade-off in some areas of your requests, but the Sig P-220 would be my choice. It may just be a little big for what you are looking for.

I also prefer to carry the P220,
I have a Colt Lightweight Commander and a Sig P220 (Carry/DAO model with 3.9" barrel).
The two guns have the same outline, although the LWC is slightly slimmer.
I can't tell the 3 oz difference.

In their February 2009 issue, "Gun Tests" did a full test and write up on 1911 variants in this size, which included an older, rather customized version of the original Colt CCO, for which they had high praise. They nonetheless came away even more pleased with the Sig C3.

I don't own a single Sig, but on their experience am now considering that very model.
