Are there any quality .45 (or other) carbines out there?

The lack of higher capacity mags for my .45 CX4 has always been frustrating. However, its a great gun- easy to shoot, accurate, eats any ammo. I have never beat it up, but it seems pretty durable to me. At least as durable as some of the other options discussed here.

The MSAR looks super cool, and it takes G21 mags, and is ambidextrous.

Hussein:
1) I don't like having lots of ammo just sitting around. I shoot pistol ammo frequently because of competition and plan on reloading. I only keep a few boxes of rifle ammo because I don't shoot rifles that often. With reloading I can get 100 rounds for <$20, and it keeps things simple. I prefer simplicity.
2) Logistics. A lot of the carbines out there I see take G21 mags. Even better.
3) I don't plan on having any mountain shootouts in Afghanistan where I would need the extra range of a rifle.

Same thing I've run across in looking for .45acp carbines: either you pay through the nose for something (though Feather looks like the best price to stand-alone weapon choice). If I had a 45 that was already available in the Mech Tech CCU I'd have one already; they will make one for Springfield XD's before the year is out (according to them).

They seem a bit pricy for just a carbine upper, but like you said, no HiPoint in .45acp.....

why are there no hi cap mags for hi points?

seems like everyone would benefit.

Good question, call 'em and ask. I personally feel that HP doesn't really target the "shooting" market, I think they're aiming more for people that feel the want or need to have one or more guns, but don't necessarily plan on shooting them much. That's just my guess anyway.

They don't cost a lot to get into, and they'll take a lot of abuse/neglect yet still go bang when needed. Perfect truck/toolbox/tacklebox/glovebox/nightstand/etc. guns. Yet my HP carbines are shooters, those puppies are FUN!

I have had a Beretta CX4 Storm in .45 cap and a 8045 Cougar bouncing around in my trunk for years. They both take the same magazines and have been flawless. My only wish is that they would make Hi Caps for them.

I like carrying the pistol calibers for when an indoor range appears unexpectedly (much like zombies)

anyone know how reliable the mech-techs are?

Is there an external safety on it?

Do the MSAR's have an external safety?

does thompson/center make a rifle that can shoot .45acp? I have a 1911 and a SW625. I was looking for a rifle in .45acp that I could take to the range.

It all depends on the pistol frame you use. If you use a 1911 frame yes there is an external safety, albeit it is hard to reach. Mine has been pretty reliable and enjoyable.
