Are we sending Bombs to Trejbal's home?

135,000 suspects

of a non-crime and people want to start looking here? I guess you have to start somewhere.

135,000 people that have had background checks all their personal lives laid bare to the government with full permission vis the Patriot Act to investigate everything in their files (even if no crime was committed) and they they want to troll on the internet?

The Governor, county supervisors, judges, legislators, all the usual suspects...

Those guys mail plenty of stuff every day. I am willing to bet it was one of them. Some of them even mail stuff to me. I also bet he gets some more mail from a lot of these folks some time this year.

:cuss:

Even though I don't live in Virginia, I was so outraged over this agenda-driven reporter's little stunt that I signed up to post here. I e-mailed this papers editors, advising them that the reporter was in violation of the papers very own privacy policy, and hoped that appropriate action (i.e. dismissal) would happen, realizing of course that personnel matters are confidential (the irony).

As many have already said, this dweeb reporter has placed many innocent, law abiding citizens in danger, while assisting the criminal community greatly.

I doubt the newspaper will do anything, but I had to vent about this absolute outrage.

I knew I would take flak for my OP. "Are we" or "We" = "Gun Owners in General" not anyone specific fellas. "There are not enough details surrounding the incident to come to a conclusion..." means I will not make a conclusion. The article that mentions threats to Trejbal in the context of a bomb scare seems to indicate that he is receiving more than just legal threats. Be that this appears to be in light of his article and the negative response (rightly so), it does not seem so far off the beaten path to say gun owners are doing things to intimidate him.

I intend to make him no more a victim than he may be. If he is receiving threats then he is a victim of crime. My post is more of an exhortation not to engage in that type of crap than it is to accuse any of you personally. And yes, I think all on that list were victimized. Mainly by the Government, but also by Trejbal.

And yes, I think it was wrong to publish his address for the reasons given. If we say "you put us in danger by publishing our address," then by implication we put him in danger and if we mean the type of danger that is life threatening then how is it not equal to Trejbal? I don't think any human should be treated that way.

I hope to not offend any of you as I do enjoy the forum. I do not want to be found a pariah simply because I find something not right on either side.

Has it escaped everyone's attention that (Read this carefully outloud if you must): THERE WAS NO BOMB. Let's all say it agian together: THERE WAS NO BOMB.

Why was there a bomb scare? Perhaps because HE is becoming paranoid. HE has decided that we may be a theat to him. Dude, HIS perceptions are not OUR crimes.

I read a lot of the posts on that board. I would be surprised if anything that was called in or written was actually a threat. However, WIENERS percieve anything as a threat if someone is angry at them (and rightfully angry, might I add.)

HIS becoming paranoid and generally being a big WIENER is NOT OUR CRIME.

Let's say it again just so we all remember:

THERE WAS NO BOMB.

I can't help if he is scared of bombs. I'm scared of spiders.

This whole bomb thing is simply MANUFACTURING A NEWS STORY.

Wait a tic... everyone keeps comparing this to the Jim Zumbo affair, but where is the new worst enemy of gun control advocates? We should have looked to him as another public voice to denounce the Roanoke Times.

Does anyone know of something from Zumbo on this topic that has, so far, gone unreported here?

We have acquired a reputation, deserved or not, of eating our own when we think it is deserved.

Define "our own".

How "high road" would someone feel if the front door was busted down and 3 thugs held you and your family at gun point asking where your firearms are?

When you deny having any, they call you a liar cause your name was printed in the paper. Then kill your family for pissing them off.

Define "our own"? The day before Jim Zumbo penned his article, he was considered "one of us". Some of us hunt, some of us punch paper, some of us carry, some of us do all of it. It all involves weaponry of some description, and so Jim Zumbo was "one of us". The following day we realized that might not be true. In the context of this debate, or dispute since that seems to be the way it is trending, "our own" as I used it refers to the possibility raised here that "one of us" in the "great gun fraternity", not always so fraternal, might have been responsible for the package that arrived at Mr. Trejbal's house. I was opining that ifthat were the case, the perpetrator would get less solace here than anywhere.

As John rightly points out,
THERE WAS NO BOMB.
I suspect Trejbal is a drama queen.

And let's not forget that just about 100 miles to the Northeast of Roanoke, there's a paper that regularly (I'm told) publishes the same info about each new CHP issued--the Fredericksburg Freelance Star. I suspect they're sitting all scrunched down in their newspaper offices thanking their deity that they aren't in our sights for now.

For the billboard:

Im in for $10

I vote for a White background with a blood red left leaning font for the "he is unarmed" part.

Of course, there could be a classified ad:

Again, what is wrong with you?

You have tarred all gun owners with your original post, you did it intentionally to prove some wierd little point in your head, and you try to rationalize it by claiming that it was everyone else's fault for making you do it.

If you're going to argue, argue to achieve a positive goal. When you screw up--as you have done, and very badly too--either keep quiet or say you're wrong and move on with life. Instead you keep trying to justify the unjustifiable.

Get counseling, and grow up.

I posted this on the other VA CHP thread, too....please help!

Hi Folks,

Here is my first compiled list of advertiser email addresses for the Roanoke Times. There will eventually be a second list, but it may be a day or two in coming because it takes a VERY LONG time to compile such a list. Please notice that at the bottom of the list are RT email addresses. You may want to CC: all of these RT pinheads so they can get a gander at the number of advertisers we are contacting.

If you would like to use it, here is a sample form letter to email to the RT's advertisers:

Dear Roanoke Times Advertiser,

In case you are unaware, on Sunday, March 11, 2007, The Roanoke Times online newspaper, www.roanoke.com, published an opinion-editorial piece under the guise of extolling the virtues of Sunshine Week, a celebration of open government and public records. The article was authored by Christian J. Trejbal and titled, "Shedding Light on Concealed Handguns." The article may be found here: http://www.roanoke.com/editorials/trejbal/wb/108160

Mr. Trejbal and the editorial staff at the Roanoke Times took the occasion of this article to reveal the full names and HOME addresses of 135,789 Virginians who legally possess Concealed Handgun Permits (CHPs) while sanctimoniously equating these CHP licensees to sex offenders in regard to the level of danger they pose to the public. CHPs are acquired by retired police officers, judges, prosecutors, civilians in hiding from abusive ex-spouses/ex-lovers, and those Virginians wishing to carry a firearm for no other reason than general self-protection. The Roanoke Times personally hosted, on its website, a searchable database of ALL Virginia CHP licensees without regard to the licensees' safety or the safety of their families. Many Second Amendment proponents argue this list established a "weapons shopping list" for burglars and thieves all across the commonwealth as well.

I am writing you today because you advertise with the Roanoke Times, roanoke.com, or one of its subsidiaries. I feel it is only fair to inform you that I have begun a personal boycott of all Roanoke Times advertisers until a resolution to their grevious error has been reached. I have asked the Roanoke Times to do 3 things:

1. Issue a public apology to all Virginia CHP licensees both in print and broadcast media.
2. Publicly promise to never post the CHP database, again. To do so would only endanger the lives of many Virginians a second time.
3. Terminate the following three individuals from their positions on the editorial staff: Christian J. Trejbal, Debbie Meade, and Dan Radmacher. These individuals have squandered the public's trust and proved unworthy of their positions of great social responsibility.

Until the Roanoke Times responds accordingly, I will NOT do business with ANY of its advertisers. I hope to see this issue come to a swift and reasonable conclusion. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Since I am an anti gun owner mental defective in need of aging and counseling toward callousness, might someone explain what attitude I ought to show Mr. Trejbal concerning his personal safety, the man himself, perceived threats against him? All we know is that they say he is getting unspecified threats and had a scare: nothing conclusive EITHER way. Do not think that just because you get a background check and all that, that all gun owners live impeccably 24/7 especially when they are enraged. Thats just naive and given the reason there is an uproar surrounding him, it is not an unreasonable speculation. But I emailed the man asking him to clarify what kind of threats he is receiving and from what type of people. We'll see.

My attitude as to how I treat others is distinctly Christian. Love your neighbor as yourself. Do unto others what you would have done unto you. Be honest and just. In your anger do not sin. Obviously non Christians are not bound to that standard.

But if I offend you by leaning toward a realist mentality toward the situation and for saying we should have a higher regard for this guy than he has for us, cry me a river. And quit acting like children by calling me names.

vis:

Easy now I think what most of us are saying is that we are talking about proven law abiding, mentally stable people. If there is someone out there who has it in for this guy (and that is a big if) he probably was not from here.

Your thread title 'Are we sending bombs...' is full of bad implications and maybe a little insulting to most.

You're right, he is probably not from THR. If there is such a man he is, however, probably an enraged gun owner given the circumstances, though I hope not. And that is the "Are we" that I am referring to. It is a sad fact that we all represent each other to a certain degree. We pay for other peoples faults. Its like Ghandi saying, "I like your Jesus, but not your Christians." So as a whole, I do not want any from our group to represent us negatively to Trejbal, McCarthy, or otherwise. We can fight a good fight politically or even with an armed militia if we are mindful not to do the same things our enemies do.

As others have implied, I'm not inclined to take these supposed "threats" seriously without specifics. I've had plenty of discussions/arguments with people who, when called a "liar" after being caught in an obvious lie, act like they're being personally attacked. It's not far fetched at all IMO to think that such a person would take a statement such as "if any harm comes to my family as a result of your actions, I will hold you personally responsible" as threats.

When Trejbal can provide some quotes along the lines of "I'm going to kill/injure/shoot you" from his so-called threats, I'll take his claims seriously. About his so-called "bomb scare," all evidence so far indicates that a package of materials for commercial customers was mistakenly sent to him. WE are not responsible for HIS[/] paranoia.

About his original article, I think all reporters' information should be public record, just like with sex offenders.

one of us
Thats still a broad context.

The only people I consider one of me are supporters of the second amendment.

Under that title you can have hunters, target shooters, gun collectors, IPSC, CASS, self defense, and just about a million different catagories.

The common bond should be the unbiased support of the second amendment which guarantees each one of those catagory participants to do their own thing without infringing on another.

I've never seen a case of "us eating our own" based on this explanation.

The person who participates in hunting but would prevent someone from participating in another gun related activity based on their beliefs certainly is not one of us or me if you prefer.

might someone explain what attitude I ought to show Mr. Trejbal concerning his personal safety,
Do unto others what you would have done unto you.

Well, if Trebal is christian, he shouldn't have a problem with http://www.bartleby.com/59/3/turnaboutisf.html

I might add that if you poke at a hornets nest, why would you be suprised when you get stung?

Personally, I couldn't care less about this guy, you are just wasting bandwith on him.

I have the utmost confidence that THR members are not behind any theats, harassment, or intimidation of Mr Trejbal. Honestly the incident seems like it could have been an honest mistake and nothing done intentionally even. I would never condone anyone trying to scare Mr. Trejbal or others like him.

At the same time I know there are gun owners who aren't as cool and collected as everyone here. Honestly I'm not sure that I find sympathy for Mr. Trejbal. He took a bunch of people exercising their fundamental right to self defense and suggested they be ostracized and treated like sex offenders. His is certainly free to have his own opinions but when you start attacking people's fundament rights they can react very emotionally. If he published an article comparing those of a particular religion to sex offenders, I think he would have found an equally emotional response.

Just because you have freedom of speech, doesn't mean that society will react well to what you have to say. No matter if its right or not, some things are hot button topics and going to invoke a strong reaction. If you can't stand the heat, close your word processing program.

You've answered my questions about what is wrong with you. No, your attitude towards others is not Christian. You make false accusations even when there is no basis for accusing anyone of anything.

No gun owner sent Christian Trejbal a bomb: there was no bomb.

No gun owner sent Christian Trejbal a fake bomb: there was no fake bomb.

A parcel carrier sent Christian Trejbal a box of shipping materials: the parcel carrier said it did.

Christian Trejbal assumed it was a bomb and called the bomb squad: he assumed it because he thinks gun owners send bombs or fake bombs to people they don't like. That Christian is not a gun owner. I understand how and why he might mistrust gun owners, although I know he should not mistrust us.

You share that Christian's disgusting assumption: you assumed that people here might do such things. You posted messages saying so even when there was no bomb, no bomb threat, no fake bomb, and no basis for your assumption except what is in your mind and your heart. I can't understand your mistrust of gun owners, because you are one and should be well aware that the members of this forum are essentially honest, decent people. You should not have been misled by our arguments into believing that any of us is a threat to anyone at all. I don't understand how and why you mistrust gun owners, especially not any of those here.

Such an assumption, and your behavior based on it, is worse than the same assumption made by the other Christian: he is not a gun owner and not a member of this forum. You are. So are we, the people you assume would do such despicable things. We are your neighbors in this community but you think little of us.

I don't know any good Christian (or any good person of any religion) who behaves that way or who damns as heathens those who reprimand him for such behavior.

Read the Bible to understand its message. It was not intended to justify your arrogance or enable you to accuse your neighbors falsely. If you have ever read 1 Corinthians 13:11-13, reread it again and more carefully. Open your heart to those you should love and stop despising them:

1Cr 13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

1Cr 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

1Cr 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these [is] charity.

If you still don't understand, I obviously have no ability to help you understand and I'll resign myself to the failure. Maybe someone else has the words to help you. I can't stand more of this.
