I have a shotgun and a rifle. living in new york though it was sort of like being a russian "volunteer." You can get stuff but it takes a little time, trouble, and money. So i have a rifle and shotgun. I've thought about handguns from time to time but for whatever reason can't bring myself to do anything about it/rather put the money towards other things.

Anyone else just own like a rifle and a handgun with no interest in shotguns or maybe the other way around?

I've been a hand-gun guy due to competitive shooting - and for SD - but along the way I had to obtain the obligatory shotguns and EBRs.

I'm real interested in getting involved in long-range rifle shooting. It never ends.

I'm getting old.

Have one shotgun. Used it several times to kill water moccissans that come up from the lake now and then. Rifle is my preferred piece. Never gone shooting without 2 or 3. Handguns run number 2 in my preferences. They are a lot of fun. 15 and 25 yards for targeting and 100 yards for plinking.

For years and years all I owned were hunting rifles and shotguns and had absolutely zero interest in handguns.
In the last hand full of years I have aquired five pistols and will probably buy a few more.
Times and attitudes do change.

Always been into shotguns because I'm a hunter first guy gun second, but for the last 15years it's been all about handguns.

I'd say the rifle is my third favorite, I only own one a .30/30 and just shoot it on occasion.

I consider myself a rifleman first. I began shooting in an NRA 4-position smallbore program many, many decades ago and am still facinated by accurate rifles. But I am also an avid bird hunter and carry a shotgun afield more than anything else. Squirrels, deer, and coyotes still allow me plenty of rifle time, though. I have a backyard range and my shooting is probably divided equally between rifles and handguns.

I've went through different "stages" in gun ownership over the years. Started off with 22's and shotguns to hunt with, then handguns for CCW, black rifles and AK's when they looked like they were on their way out.

Now it's mostly handguns (S&W's) but I try to keep and example of "all-the-above"!

First started shooting handguns real young with dad, then had a 22 rifle give to me around 8 years old. Huting in the early years was with a shotgun and buck shot. Later started hunted away from home with a rifle ,handgun and bow. All pretty equal now.I own as many pistols as long arms now.Just one bow.

I guess I'm about equally spread across the three. I have a shotgun. But it's not the only shotgun I have. I also have a rifle. In fact, I have several rifles. And I have a handgun. Well, I've got a number of handguns. If I were to rank my shooting interests it would have to alternate, back and forth between the handguns and rifles. I'll never give up my shotguns though. They are just too much fun.

Little bit of everything here...I was first introduced to firearms with a 12 gauge, so I think naturally shotguns have a place in my heart

A bit of all three. Raised a rifle hunter, became a handgun shooter by choice, and have steadily developed proficiency and respect for the shotgun along the way. I take joy from shooting all of them, but in particular it's the crack of a rifle on a cool fall morning when I'm the only one on the range.

i have acquired all 3 in the early 1970's after USMC and have been using all sense then, then 27yrs as a police officer i had 3 pistols on me one on my hip (python) one on my leg (snub nose) and one in my right breast pocket (sterling 22) with a shotgun in the police car dash mounted and a ak47 in the trunk, not to mention my bird guns, varmint rifle, deer rifles and other pistols. i love em all

I CCW, so I handle a handgun daily. That said, I consider myself a rifleman first, handgunner second. Shotgunning is a distant third, even though I hunt small game with a shotgun. My preferred small game getter is a scoped Savage 24 that combines a .22 WMR rifle with a 20 gauge shotgun.

But "just for fun," I prefer hunting, target shooting, and plinking with rifles. As a relatively new reloader, I'm enjoying working up new accuracy loads for my long guns. But I'll admit that working up and shooting cast lead ammo for my revolvers is also fun.

I've been facinated with handguns since capgun days and own more pistols and revolvers than long guns.

I like all three, although I own 4X as many handguns as rifles or shotguns. I like to keep things well balanced. That's why I am working towards earning NRA Distinguished Expert on Shotgun after having qualified DE in rifle and handgun. Just thought it would be fun to be 3-gun qualified.

A gun person

Hi all
I Won,t tell you how old I am but I have owned and shot guns for over 50 years. A non gun relative of mine once asked me how many guns I had. When I told her she said "Why so many? I asked her "You play golf, how many clubs do you have, One"?
The point is, All guns have prefered uses. If you are going deer hunting in maine, take your 30-30 lever action rifle. antalope in Arizona, your 270 rifle.
Handgun hunting, your .50 caliber S & W.
I don,t walk around in the woods and hunt anymore. I like pistol shooting now because of the challenge of target shooting. I also have a LTC so I carry a .40 caliber S & W. I am also a certified firearms trainer in MA so I train with my handguns for practice.
PS, I am a NRA and GOAL guy also

Maybe I'm a rifleman. I think one way to tell which you are, is through blackpowder. If you were to own and shoot a blackpowder gun, what would it most likely be? A Hawken flint? An old Navy? A muzzleloading Greener?

When I made the leap into the loose loading smokers, it was with a rifle, so maybe I'm a rifleman.

I like boom, but overall I love rifles.

My first gun was a shotgun, and I won't knock the shotguns because they are fun and have their place. I have shot pistols to and I would buy one but I don't find them attractive.

I really like rifles most though because a shotgun just can't match the pinpoint accuracy that a rifle can, the absolute perfection and precision.

What I find endlessly fascinating about firearms is accuracy. What you have in your hand in a gun is a pipe, with a nail in the back of it. Inside that pipe is an explosive in a stamped (one of the less-accurate manufacturing processes) brass casing holding a usually cast (another crappy process) chunk of lead that is sometimes wrapped in copper. Then you take that explosive and are able to consistently propel that chunk of lead at supersonic speeds to 300 yards and beyond with enough force to knock over large game or in the right situation blow a hole through an engine block. Oh and you can do this repeatedly and land 100 (or 1000) more hunks of lead in an area smaller than the palm of your hand, at the same distance.

This kind of accuracy is amazing, the absolutely primal forces being harnessed to do something that is refined. So rifles win the day for me.

I'm split evenly between handgun and rifle. I have a couple of shotguns, but don't shoot them much. The occasional dove hunt and skeet shoot is about it.
