Do you shoot/own only handguns, or only rifles/shotguns?

Maybe it is the price of even common .22 handguns that seems to be a disincentive for me, compared to similar prices for good surplus military rifles.

The nice guy in middle TN who sold me the near-mint SKS for $200 in March '08 told me that he was a "shotgun man". He did not seem to care for rifles. An active duty Navy guy down the street is a clay pigeon shooter and hunts birds.

Lots of guys in gun shops seem to be unaware of rifles, focusing only on handguns.

That's because they provide a better investment in shelf space. You get X amount of display room, pistols being smaller are a better choice as you can put more of them on display, and some fetch a higher premium than some rifles. Also if you live in a state like Ohio, they are illegal to hunt with, so your choices go back to pistol and shotgun.

Besides shelf space, which certainly is a consideration, I think it is becoming harder for many to find a place to shoot high power rifle. It costs about $500 to initially join my club, which certainly deters many beginning or casual shooters. If I want to shoot in the woods, my choices are much more limited than they were 20 years ago. The current emphasis on SD also leads many to the pistol.

I shoot all three, but I focus about 95% of my trigger time on rifles and pistols.

I really only shoot my shotguns to familiarize with them. Otherwise I don't care for shotguns.

Off topic: I typed this with a mobile device. What a pain. :)

I have all three and probably favor handguns more than anything else. I think they have always held a greater interest to me, can be used for plinking, target shooting, and for CCW, and it's easier to find a pistol range nearby than it is to drive a couple of hours away to a rifle range or a trap and skeet club.

I shoot 'em all. I have twice as many handguns as I do long guns and shoot the handguns much more frequently to practice for self defense.

I shoot them all also. Pistols are easier for me as there is an indoor range only a five minute walk from my home. I shoot a long series of gallery matches there from Sept. to April.
Rifles come out in the late Spring through Summer and Fall.
Shotguns - Trap Shooting all year and Upland game October through January.

I also shoot them all. Each category has it's own specific uses and some users will only need them for certain tasks and that will limit ownership. If I own it I will shoot it, while I do have my favorites I try to shoot them all as often as I can.:D I think that there should be another category for black powder firearms as they are a pain in the backside to clean and that takes them into another separate realm.

I have and shoot all of them...Especially in CAS...Rifle, shotgun and pistols. Hunting, not so much. Mainly Rifle and shotgun. Target fun, all three.

60% Rifles
35% Shotguns
5% Pistols
I reload for everything I pull a trigger on except for the rimfires of course.

I shoot a pistol because I have to for work. Other than that, it's all rifles for me (and shotguns when I bird hunt).

I love them all (and own some of each). My local shooting range is $200 to join initially, and then $150 to renew each year. Rifle range goes out to 350 yds I believe, it has several pistol ranges, a rimfire range, 2 skeet/trap fields, an air gun range, and an archery range! All outdoor but a great place to go for a fun day!

I Don't Understand........?

If it is capable of throwing a projectile, I'm in.... It go BOOM.. Bob Like !!!!:)

I have ACTUALLY talked to people who only shoot shotgun... or rifle..... I don't understand that form of discrimination...:uhoh:

I think they have medication for that.:banghead:

If it goes "bang" (firearms) or "twang" (archery), I'm all for it. I'm not prejudiced about the color of the powder, either.

Shotguns are the best investment per shelfspace. Then handguns.

I know people will argue that, but store 100k of handguns in the space you can a shotgun without devaluing any of them :)

To each their own. I own and use all 3 catagories.

I own all 3. I practice with the handguns the most, because I'm more likely to use them more than the long guns. I like shotguns the best out of the 3, however.
