USAF. Security police. Nam. 66-67....TAN SIN NUET at that time Sagion area..

For what it's worth, I would have been the first to join the military (hell, I'd join now at 40!) if our boys were defending our border, just like the constitution demands. I do not however, support our military intervention in the affairs of other nations and certainly not to ensure the free flow of natural resources from within the borders of other sovereign countries.

In case you missed the news, on September 11th 2001 a group of Muslim militants affiliated with an organization calling itself Al-Qaeda flew commercial aircraft into both towers of the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon and yet another into a field in Shanksville Pennsylvania. All told some 3,000 Americans died that day, more than died at Perl Harbor.

Now, if you don't think taking military action against those Muslim extremists is "protecting our boarder" you need to check yourself. Perhaps you're against the war in Iraq, and that's fine (and your right). But we also have troops deployed in Afghanistan where we know Al-Qaeda trained those involved in 9/11 and other attacks against Americans abroad.

Please don't insult our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen currently engaged in this global war on terror by saying their mission is unjust or about oil. That's absolutely asinine and misinformed not to mention highly insulting to those currently proudly serving their nation in defense not only of our borders but our way of life.

They're good at that... insulting service men and women.

It sticks in my craw when people tell service members today that they're fighting for oil in explaining the Iraq war. If that's the case then why is gas over $3 a gallon now and why is Iraq the 15th top oil producer - below Saudi, Iran, Russia and China? Heck, Mexico and Canada produce more oil than Iraq does!

Was 11b with the Tenth Mountain Divison for most of my career. Earned my air assault wings and EIB at Ft Drum. Also did a tour in Bosnia and completed the jungle warfare school in Panama. Then moved around units a little (20th SFG and 3/124 Florida Guard) and did a tour in Iraq as well. Got my CIB there.

I would also like to state: "Well stated, Sturmgewer!":)

I served 33 years so all have the right to their own opinions. I have known several who have served the armed forces and then spent time in the peace corps. Totally different in their objectives and manner of service. I, like you, get tired of those coming here and trying to detract from the spirit of the original post. People like that need to learn to keep their mouths shut until the proper time. Why dishonor all who have Truely served our nation?

Sturmgewehr, you are 100% right. We still have enough untapped oil that we could outproduce half of that list combined. That is off course if the tree huggers and liberals would let us. Not to mention we would have to build more refineries since none have been built in the last 20 years. Not to get on a rant but we are giving this country away. Our government is content with China contracting to drill off of Cuba but it is not ok for us to drill off of Florida. I said my piece, Bill.
