Shotgun Acquisition Disorder strikes here in America every day.

Heck, it strikes ME that often.

It's the feeling that even when the second safe is getting crowded, there's just one more _____ you need.

Of course, need and want are synonyms here.

It can look a little excessive to an outsider, though. One friend has enough short barrelled, mid grade 20 gauge SxS Parkers he has to stop and think about the numbers when asked, and is looking for more.

A member here has four fine old riot guns, all classic designs, and mentioned by PM how he wants more such.

Or it could be a specialized, niche shotgun. Like an "Up close, small bird, short shot window, small shot" shotgun for a grouse hunt that causeth thy palms to perspire.

It could be the one you wanted when you were 12.

Or the one you HAD at that age.

Or more general in nature. One fine fellow here at work has, within the last couple years, bought.....

A 3901.

An 870 Express.

A BPS.

A Franchi O/U.

Two Beretta White Onyx O/Us, his in 12, hers in 20. She outshoots him, but she does let him borrow the 20.

His youngest shoots my little NEF 12, cut to fit a young shooter.

He wants my SKB if I decide to sell it, which is unlikely.

Maybe your next one is a bespoke Purdey, a converted Saiga, or a no name single shot 410.

Maybe it's a Sterlingworth like your Grandpa's that your cousin has now.

Maybe it's an old Police gun as a base for a tactical build.

Maybe a Kolar, Kreighoff or Blaser.

Maybe all of the above.

There's no vaccine for SAD. No cure, no 12 step program. That's the good news.

Come on,admit it. You do have at least one MORE in mind, don't you?

I had it but was cured! Happened just about the time I got preoccupied fighting cancer. I will be just as happy if neither comes back. If Remington comes out with a wood and blued steel Versamax I will probably get one, but that's a plan, not an affliction. :)

I am currently "on the wagon" and need to sell a couple -- due to indulgence earlier this year ;)

A coach gun, exposed hammers, a little beat up doesn't matter just fully functional, reliable, safe. I don't have any reason other than I want one and I want it cheap. Not a cheap gun just cheap ...and not Chinese.

not asking much huh?

A new "forever" target gun - one that will outlive and outlast me without issues
A new "forever" quail gun, preferably a AyA #2 in 20 gauge
With an extra one each in 12 and 20 as back ups to those two, I could sell off the rest

Gunsinternational.com - the eye candy superstore for shotguns

Of course, a partial cure is to never ever sell a shotgun once you buy it. At least that way you won't be rebuying or thinking about rebuying it later. Then, your only affliction will be buying new a different shotguns.

I've not possessed many but I've come across a few recently in a short time that delight me.

The first was a Stevens 311 in parts, in bags. After some finessing and 'parts putting', the owner claims it shoots great but I haven't had time to find out.

The second was a Savage (1)67 that was jammed up with a loose ejector floating around in the receiver. Shoots fine but had an extractor issue (working!!).

The next one is an older Rossi that the owner was given after it was coated in shellac. That too is 'working'.

My last piece is a really old Davenport single shot, top break that has SERIOUS issues. No hammer spring, missing extractor link and other issues prevent this from firing anytime soon.

Anyway, I'm really attracted to older shotguns now, can't explain way. They're easy to operated and the mechanics aren't all that difficult. Yeah, maybe that's the reason???

At least

At least two more....
One is on order and being made for me as I write this by Mike Brooks (http://www.fowlingguns.com/). It is a 16 gauge flintlock fowler. It will have some fine wood and a 42 inch barrel.
The second will be - some day - a Kreighoff K-80 O/U or a Perazzi - so that I can shoot Trap doubles.

Hi everyone. I have SAD. ( head hung low ) I have the Wingmaster affliction. Went to the local shop to buy a Christmas present for my son yesterday, and there it was. On the rack ready for just me. The sales lady said, " I think we may have that one pirced too high,if you want to make us an offer we'll ask the owner about it when he comes in." So with a dry mouth, shakeing hands, thoughts of the wife will grind me up into dog food, I blurted out ***.**. Oh no what have I done, not again.

So, now I'am done for a few days. When they call me from the gun shop, the wife finds out, and I have to come up with the money, the symtoms will come back. Shakeing, numbness, $$$$, browbeating, yelling justifications for having to have it to complete the collection. You all know about this, so I'am not telling anybody anything about SAD and hopefully my new addtion to the Wingmaster collection.

Yes, I did have the SAD affliction. Mine was the HD variety. I was continually buying/building the next great HD gun. That is, until recently, when my girlfriend made the not too casual observation that it would be far cheaper and better for our relationship if I invested the funds, instead, in a good therapist. So, I am down to a beautiful 870 and a Benelli M4... and serious withdrawal.

Is there a 12-step program for that?

"Hi, my name is Lee and I'm a SADaholic."

There's another one (H&R Pardner Pump, Security model) waiting at my FFL for the transfer paperwork to be done right now... I'd still rather have a good $150 pump shotgun in hand, than $150 in depreciating FRN$ in the bank.

Maybe not a 12 step program but there is a 12 gauge program that I have found.
I think the affliction is contagious and I have also caught it.
This page may be a carrier.

I need an excuse to buy just one more shotgun. Looking for a nice double but I cannot decide between the Ithaca Phoenix or the Winchester 101, but wait I might need a side by side.... Got it bad!

I suffer a lot more from MAD. Mosin Acquisition Disorder, better known as mosinitis. Although I do have 2 shotguns on layaway at the moment at pawnshops. :)

Along with that, I also suffer from GAS. Gear Acquisition Syndrome. This is mostly guitar amp related. I currently have about 20 of them, most of which I've built myself. Needless to say, between the guns, guitars, drums, etc... we have a very loud house. MAD has taken over for about the last year, but I thing GAS will rear its ugly head soon again.

A 20 gauge hunting gun to match my 12 gauge target gun - a Citori with a Wenig New American stock, Schnabel forend, and some Muller choke tubes.

Or maybe a Cesar Guerini 32 inch Challenger Impact, with a left handed stock.

Or a 28 gauge Wingmaster.

Or a best English gun.

I see I'm far from alone....

Some other acquisition disorders can be affecting SAD. Someone mentioned amps. My dilemma for my Holiday present from the family is to whether ask for a set of Muller chokes for the B gun or a Fender tube amp like the Deluxe Reverb I had back in the day.

Of course, I stay away from the used gun rack at Gunz R Us, there might be a nice WM....

The good news is that it's not an expensive habit! The cure is to buy "just one more!" Albiet a temporary cure... or another affliction.

I currently suffer from Mosinitis, CZickness, and Sigflu

I don't have a riot gun, a tactical shotgun, nor a slug gun. I still need to see if my Ithaca can be threaded for choke tubes.

I still need a good quality O/U.

And I don't have anything NFA. I could probably get a friend's NEF pretty cheap, and I think it would be a lot of fun to chop it.

I don't really covet more shotguns. I find when I try and shoot more then one gun, I end up confusing my muscle memory and not shooting as well as I could.

I would love a few pallets of ammo.

I have MSAD; Man Stuff Aquisition Disorder. Guns, cars, tools, motorcycles, model trains. About the only ones I'm not into are musical instruments and boats.

I go in cycles. Guns and cars are most constant, but tend to wax and wane opposite each other and seasonally. In the summertime, I'm all about that next big-inch, big torque engine build, but come cooler weather, I'm drooling over a bang stick or five.

Shotguns in particular? I have eclectic tastes. Love shorty SxS's, but also Ithaca 37's and Remington 11's. Then I remember there are few things prettier than a nice Italian O/U.

I'm really screwed, aren't I?

I got it, but mine is a weird strain...

I started out with a bolt action .410 that my older brother claimed was his and proceeded to destroy, so maybe I'm just spending my lifetime trying to make up for that early loss. I bought a NEF Youth .410 several years later, and after enjoying it as-is I sent the receiver in and acquired barrels in 12 (22" Mod), 16 (26" Full), 20 (24" Rifled), 28 (22" Mod), and .50 Muzzleloader. Then after everybody and their brother swore I needed a Wingmaster I got a '79 model (28" Full) that I've never really warmed up to. I like break-action guns, didn't grow up on pumps like so many others did. Now I have the itch for a Coach Gun. Oh, forgot to mention my Savage 24S-A in .22WMR/.410, now THAT is a sweet little gun! :)

My SAD was of the riot gun variety, a particularly pernicious form.
But I am glad to report I have it in check for now.
What, you may ask, is my magic elixir?
Simple, I have talked myself into believing that I will never find a riot gun more classic, more handsome, and more ready for duty than either of these two puppies:

Regards from a recovering riotgunaholic.

Did someone say they saw a Remington 31R for sale?

You need Deluxe Reverb! I'm working on a mutant BFDR right now with an SRPP driver and improved recovery. I'm partial to 6V6 plexi's and 18watters.

It's just not safe for me to go into pawn shops at all. I'm an ex-mechanic and do almost all of my own work on our house, so tools are a minor addiction also. Guns, tools, musical instruments and equipment. It's just never a good idea....
