Are You Buying Ammo To Offset The Planned Price Increases?

I don't think that this explains the increases and disappearances that I've witnessed in the last 2 years. Where has the 308 surplus gone? What happened to Wolf 7.62x54r 200gr soft points that were 25 cents per round? What happened to 8 cent/round 8mm surplus? What happened to 10 cent/round 9mm surplus? What happened to $100/case of Wolf 7.62x39? What happened to 30 cents/round Swiss 7.5x55?

I think it is a combination of many factors, mainly the devaluation of the US dollar relative to other currencies, increased demand for raw goods (copper) from emerging economies (China), and UN weapons/ammo treaties that prevent surplus ammo exports.

Like it matters. I'm jus going to shoot it up and need more anyway. Isn't that the point.

This is why I started reloading two years ago. Two years ago, 250 UMC ball .45ACP was about $40, now it's about $65-$70 for the same rounds. I only buy new ammo if my reloading coffers are low.

It's like buying beer bottles as a home brewer, which I also happen to be. I can buy a bottle of grolsch, full of beer, for about 2 bucks. Or, I can go to the homebrew shop and buy an empty bottle for 3 bucks. Not exactly aligned with factory prices versus reloading supply prices, but you get the idea. Buy an empty beer bottle for more money, then have to fill it, or a full one at a lower cost, and get the beer to boot.

I reload, and buy the cheap stuff when I see it. I hate it when I see a good deal, and don't have the $$$ on hand to buy. Therefore, knowing the the cost of ammo is only going one way, (up).

FWIW, jeepmor, I'm a homebrewer too, and occasionally, I find a local bar that pours their Grolsch from the flip-top bottles, and I ask those guys to save them for me. Economy comes from turning another man's trash into your treasure.

I always took it with a grain of salt that it was ALL due to the War. But, what about China snapping up raw materials?

EDIT - n/m, didn't see the next page!

Just bought another 1000 rounds of 7.62X54R Bulgarian heavy ball from Ammoman for $198 shipped and 500 rounds of 8X57 Romanian from Aim Surplus for $118.75 shipped. I don't see it getting any cheaper or more plentiful. When my stockpile runs out in 2012 I'll start reloading it.

Do to the increase in ammo prices I have a new system worked out. Since I'm a bit of a handi-man, I gladly fix other peoples small problems (home, auto, gun I'm pretty good with alot of stuff), for a few boxes of ammo. I still do a good favor at a reasonable price and get ammo out of it to boot. Plus I'm about to start reloading and since I'm an ammo tech for the Corps I have access to alot of spent brass (we just throw it out).

Time to stock up,
Dunhams has 243,270,308, and 30-06 Remington ammo for $11.99 a box with a Remington $5 off a box rebate.....$6.99/bx
Federal Hollowpoint 22's $8.95/400
What we need is a new Discussion thread on cheap ammo prices .....so we can share our bargains.....

I hadn't heard of "Natchez" before now - well, I'm sure I head of them but never checked them out until now. They had some decent deals going on - IF they were still in stock of the item! :what:

I thought about my post yesterday and decided to order another 1000 rounds of 7.62X54R Bulgarian heavy ball from Ammoman for $198 shipped and 1000 rounds of 8X57 Romanian from Aim Surplus for $235.50 shipped. I'm not panicking yet though, this is still prudent stockpiling.
