Using Wikipedia's inflation calculator, I get 44.7% inflation since 1998:
1998 $1000 = 2014 $1,447.

yep, this certainly has much to do with it, the other big factor is demand. Inflation is the main reason the middle class is being squeezed out of existence in the US (JMHO).

I have noticed an increase in higher end guns. The 4-600 range has seemed to be steady, the Kimbers have been crawling up, and the lower priced, LCP etc. Are flat to down.
