Are you primarily a collector, shooter or both?

Primarily a shooter, but a bit of an accumulator over the years. I won’t say collector because there’s no theme. Now I’m downsizing.

Funny descriptions. My late father and great uncle were both what I call “hunters”. They only shot their shoguns at game. But back then, we hunted a lot. Same shotgun, different shells. I knew how to hold and lead with that full choked Ithaca 30. I remember when they would “sight in” their shoguns for deer, usually the evening before. I would run to the fence post and put up a clean paper plate about 40 yards away. I would see both of them load two into there 37s and put two big holes in the paper plate. They called it good and put the other three in their pocket for the night morning.

I’m a shooter. I use to crave different flavors in the past, but now I’m pretty good on having three or four carry pistols(pocket carry, belt, or shoulder holster), their backups, and a trainer to swap around to spread out the usage.

Hi...
I am a shooter.
I also collect certain things like Dan Wesson revolvers, Sako rifles(not as many as I would like) and Virginian Dragoons(again, not as many as I would like).
I shoot everything I collect and that includes a large number of SA Ruger revolvers, Uberti/Pietta SA clones, S&W N frame revolvers and a large number of other handguns from a variety of manufacturers.

Lately I have been gathering together a collection of pistol caliber lever action rifles and all of them get shot.

here the test…

If you got over 10 gun that you still have not shot and sold less than 10. you are a collectors

If your guns look like they been to WW2 and back, your a Shooter

If you air your guns out (you know you do it too) Collector

If you keep your guns in old or new socks. shooter

I'll add that of my guns, three are strictly collectables: the S&W 31-1 32 Long, the Seacamp LWS 32, and the Virginian Dragoon 44 Magnum. For SD it the S&W 642, the S&W 686+, the S&W SD9 VE, and the Kel Tec P32. All of them but the Seacamp and the 642 will still be taken to the range now and then, but the Seacamp is too sassy (trigger guard bites your finger) and I have the Kel Tec P32 which is more manageable, and the 642 will wear out if I keep shooting it as it already has 475 rounds thorugh it.

I collect/accumulate the guns that I want so that I can shoot or hunt with them. On occasion I'll cull the herd, those that I don't shoot on a regular basis and have a tendency to sit neglected get sold. No safe queens here.....

Oh, I have a few guns that I’m sentimentally attached to and hardly ever shoot anymore. For the most part though, if I don’t use (shoot) a gun, I either sell it or trade it off for a gun I think I will use. ;)

I can remember every gun I traded or sold. And can count them in 1 hand!

1 gun I wish I kept but trade was too good, was a M77 Ultra Light .243

Shooter. Everything I own gets taken to the range or woods and used at some point during the year. Some more than others of course.

I am primarily a shooter/concealed carrier. I have no interest at all in collecting guns, but I sure do turn them over. The longest I've ever owned one gun was my Glock 26 Gen 5 that was my EDC for three years. Unfortunately for me, that's the one gun I would have kept for the long haul if it weren't for health issues. At the time I sold it, I could barely rack the slide, and removing the slide (for those familiar with Glocks) was an excruciating process that took me a few minutes. It was the best gun I over owned, and I miss it.

I'm both or more like all three, collector, shooter & reloader. I have guns that have only been shot one time.
I like having guns that no one else has or shoots. I like shooting old guns next to young guys with thousands of $$$$ in their guns & wearing out the gongs out while they can't hit one. LOL
I like searching out the history of the gun I'm shooting so I can tell the young guys about the gun that just out shot them.
I own a Mosin Nagant 91/30 PU sniper that can shoot better than I can. I own a Romanian RPK & PSL that are real cherry's. I have a Romanian M1969 .22lr that with good eyes can shoot the primer out of a 12ga shell at 100yds, but I can't do it with my eyes anymore.
Some old guns take special loads to shoot them & I like working out a good load for an old gun.

We are very simular in what we like except I am not all that interested in the nagant stuff or old military bolt guns. I dont really have issues racking slides except for my EDC Seecamp 380, that is not fun to rack... This works very nice for racking slides easily. I have one on my G19. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1018893414
