Does anyone have any information on the Argentine '09/73 sniper rifle? The only information that I've found are a few pictures in Colin Webster's book on Argentine Mausers.

I recently purchased a drilled and tapped '09 Argentine Mauser that looks similar to the '09/73 sniper rifle, but is different in some respects from the pictures in Webster's book.

The 09/73 in Webster's book appears to have higher Weaver mounts and a somewhat different turn down on the bolt. This one is almost certainly just a very nice, all matching, sported '09 Modelo in excellent condition and was priced as such. It did spark my interest in the '09/73 Argentine sniper rifle, however.

The rear base looks mounted at an angle because of the charger hump. Could be an optical illusion. I would check it with an alignment bar.

Is that the original trigger guard? I don't think any military Mauser had a hinged floor-plate on the magazine. The trigger also looks like it has some kind of special 'gripping surface' (not sure of the correct term) crimped in place.

Nice rifle. I'm not sure on that particular Mauser but I doubt a true military sniper rifle from another country will be using basic Weaver mounts. Looks like someone added the. Thats a shame. At least they didn't grind the charger hump off.

Actually, the Argentine Mauser is one of the few military Mausers that did come with a hinged floor plate. The floor plate on this one is numbered to all the other parts of this rifle, so I'm sure it is original.

The trigger does have a trigger shoe on it, which can be removed.

Thanks, Scooter.

Actually, I have Colin Webster's book Argentine Mauser Rifles 1871-1959,which refers to a 1909/73 sniper rifle made up by the Argentines in 1973 from the '09 Mauser long rifle and a 4 x 33 Suwa scope, mounted on Weaver bases and rings and a turned down bolt. There are differences between mine and the 1909/73 shown in Webster's book.

Here are some pictures...

Understand, I do not believe that this is an '09/73...I just would like to find out more about them.

jp, I just don't have enough information about the '09/73 to conclude that this is one of them. I'm still trying to collect information about the 09/73.
