The day I turned 18, I bought a Mosin Nagant 91/30 from my local gun shop for $75. It was always fun to shoot, and I happened to get one that was an "ex-sniper" as the collectors call it. Over the next few years I thought about getting a PU scope and reconfiguring it to "sniper format" I got all the parts I needed, A PU mount, 1943 PU scope and a Sniper bolt. I went to many different Gunsmiths, but none of them would drill and tap it for me! So after a few weeks of searching, i Decided to do it myself. I went to the local Home Depot, and bought a drill bit and tap for the screws for my scope mount. One dead night at my job, I used the drill press in the machine shop and Volia! I had given my sniper rifle rebirth! The next step was to take it out to the range.
This Range report was conducted on a Sunny 75 dead calm wind day. PERFECT for shooting. It was done after months of shooting at least 2 times a week, so I was ready. I laser bore sighted the scope in and took it out to 50 yards. It shot a little low, using the screws on the side of the scope mount, I readjusted it, after about 6 groups of 3 shots, I was now hitting dead center. I let the gun cool, then took it out to 100 yards (the max distance at this range) It needed only mininal adjustments, I was able to get a group of 7 shots in a 3/4" group!
The hits on the target are A group of 10: 2 outside the group from sighting in, 7 in the cluster. and 1 stray in the 7 ring not showin in the picture (result of me blinking as I pulled the trigger)
Conditions: Temp: 75 F Wind: 0 kts Sunny
Rifle: Mosin Nagant 91/30 manf. 1943 at Tula plant
Ammo: 147 Grain Wolf 7.62x54R
Distance: 100 Yards
Time Between Shots: .5-1.5 Minutes
*The Burlap covering on the rifle is because I am a big World War II nut/nerd
