Argh! Deciding whether or not to sell a gun...

I suppose, in retrospect, I got a little carried away early in my gun-acquisition career. Granted, I only have three, a meager armory by most standards, but at the moment I need money. The problem is, I can't convince myself to sell anything I own!

BPS- Hell, I just got the thing back in February, and I haven't even hunted with it yet, just gone to the range and made videos of what 00 buck does at 15 yards

P94- My first handgun. Again, only had it about six months, maybe 300 rounds through it, but... but... I just put new sights on it, and I don't want to short-circuit my pistol proficiency just as it begins to develop...

Marlin .22- Probably the most likely one for me to decide to sell... but I took a $130 rifle and tinkered with it until it shot sub-MOA consistently. More than anything, it's my baby. Plus, I can't bring myself to blow squirrels away with the 12 gauge.


Does anyone want to donate a firearm for me to sell?

Damn this addictive hobby... and in the midst of all this, I still want to buy a deer rifle.

Why couldn't you use the BPS for deer hunting? Slap some slugs in that puppy and you're good to go.

I have sold quite a few guns over the years (duplicate/similar models). For most of them I have later looked back and asked myself "Now, why did I sell that gun. I really miss it now".

FWIW my advice is don't sell any of them. Sell something else, anything else, blood, anything but a gun. There isn't one gun that I've sold or traded that I haven't at some point regretted getting rid of. Well, maybe the S&W 39. No, that was an old retired Illinois State Police gun, pretty cool.

Deciding on what to sell is agony. Once the decision has been made, and the gun is gone/and cash in hand there is a feeling of relief. Not to make light of suicide...but from what I've read, the emotional process is similar. But you'll likely own many more guns in your lifetime. Marlin will make more.

Over the course of my gun ownership I've gotten rid of 4 guns. Granted the reason I got rid of them all were so I could get OTHER guns, but out of the 4 there are 2 that I really miss yet can't afford to get again just yet. If there is any way around selling one I'd say do it, but if not ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Oh, I'm already selling some fishing and camping stuff on eBay (God bless it), but I can't help but look at the BPS or the Ruger and think "$300 used." Frankly, I doubt I'll sell any of them- but who knows.

And of course I can use the BPS for deer- but I want a rifle, dammit!

Don't sell any of them! The cash will be gone in a flash, and you'll spend the rest of your life regretting it. I am lucky in that my Dad bought my first deer rifle back from a friend I sold it to. Unfortunately, he has it, and lives 1000 miles away...

Depending on the amount of money you need the Marlin will bring you the least amount. Don't expect to get much more than $100 if you get that. If that doesn't cover your needs then you will be right back in the same boat with fewer choices next time.
If you have to sell make sure you get enough for your needs. They haven't stopped making firearms and the used market is flooded with them for when times are better for you.

It's easy for others to tell you not to sell, but their hands are not in your pockets.

Rule 1. Never sell a gun.

Actually, Majic, I am pretty darn flat broke right now, and I am not even thinking of selling any of my guns. (Even though Mosinitis helped put me in that predicament... )

WhiteKnight: Well, I'm only planning on selling one. My line of reasoning was that I definitely didn't want to sell the shotgun, what with the general versatility of shotguns and such. Between the .22 and the Ruger, it was simply a matter of which would net more cash and which I would miss less. I can't kill squirrels with the Ruger (well, not if I want to eat them ), and I can defend my residence effectively with the BPS, though that 26" barrel would be a bit cumbersome.

Don't you want a P94?

Hi Misan...
I have lived to regret almost any gun that I ended up selling. Most of the time it was because I lacked the funds to get a new toy for myself. So I know what you are going through.

If you have to get the money...and there is no other way? find a good home for the gun and maybe times will get better.

Hope you don't have to part with them, though.
