Armadillos, the crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, ballistic target.

They like to get under stuff that’s for sure. In the barns we use either pallets to set stuff on or cut the steel sheet off old water heaters and lay it flat to set things on.

I laughed Sunday, making my antifreeze rounds, on equipment before it gets cold here, I came across this hole one had recently made on the left.

That is a serious hole. There must have been something yummy to that armadillo down there.

Lots of rain, has them searching out dry places to hide out during the day.

I saw my first live armadillo I. Oklahoma last February. A 308 with 165gr accubond at close range does a really good job on them.

A 200gr cast truncated cone from a 45acp certainly kills them but is far less dramatic. No pictures of that one.

I need to start documenting my armadillo exploits as well. Most of mine tend to be shot with a 22lr pistol shooting CCI standard velocity, a 5.56 AR using either 53 gr V-Max's or 50 gr Barnes Varmint Grenades, or a 20 gauge using lead bb shot, but my most impressive one was with a 22-250 shooting 36 gr Varmint Grenades at around 45 yards while coyote hunting. That one was very nearly pink mist.

My favorite recent kill was using the 20 gauge when we had people over for a bonfire and a friend called one in from the woods thinking it was a stray dog or cat. That was very funny to me and everyone else there.
