With my tax refund due in the next few weeks, I've got the bug. I'm definitely thinking .50, but I just can't afford an M82 or a Windrunner. However, the AR50 is very do-able in the mid-$2k range. So I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with them. While they are one of the more economical .50's out there, $2,600 is not a small amount of money and I do not want to be dissappointed. It is one of the heaviest .50's (possibly a plus for extended range sessions?), but I doubt I will feel much difference between it's 41 pound heft and the 32-36 of the others. All the .50's, near as I can tell, use 1 in 15" rifling.

My only Armalite is an AR-10A2 carbine and I love it, but the big .50 is in a completely different league and if it is not sub-MOA capable I'd rather save a while longer.

I cannot seem to find very many reviews on this rifle, so if anyone has fired on please give me your impression.

I shot my buddy's AR50...

and it is nice. But, I don't have enough experience with shooting a 50 to give a proper assessment. I would buy an AR50 if I had the money because they make a left hand version..........chris3

My AR-50 with scope and bipod weighs 35lb..near as I can weigh it. Have seen the 40+ numbers published somewhere but haven't a clue what they did to make it so heavy.

Nice rifle, by the way!

So I see we have a few members with experience, but no one has tackled the accuracy concern. What can I expect? Sub-MOA should be a given with any .50, but is this thing capable of killing pie plates at 1000 yards/meters like the McMillans or Windrunners? I do think it is one of the best looking single-shot BMG's (though nothing tops the M82:D ).

You can still get a .50 in Kali, there's the new .50 DTC or the .50 Spotter.

There's also the .416 Barrett round, which (AFAIK) is a necked-down BMG with no other changes. Ballistics are something like a 400 grain spitzer @ 3250 FPS. Pretty impressive.

The farthest I have put holes in paper is 600yds so far and the rifle would make 4"groups with ease....using handloaded M33 ball.

Shooting MOA at 1000+ involves more than just the accuracy of the rifle. Travelling the extra distance allows more time for swirling cross wind to play havoc with the flight. And, the slower the bullet gets, the more easily deflected it becomes.

Regardless, the AR-50...with good ammo...is easily capable of MOA accuracy. Whether we can shoot it that well is not a problem with the rifle. And, it isn't fair to compare a factory rifle with a combination chamber that is loose enough to safely fire military surplus with a tight chambered custom rifle that will only fire carefully tailored handloads.

The AR-50 is a great shooting rifle, especially for the price.
