I'm glad he was there to escort those young ladies to their cars. I don't like to think about what might have happened had he not been there.

He had a gun on school property. Ruh Rho... hoping his LEO status helps him out otherwise, he may be charged. Further... it could hurt him in the forthcoming civil suits by the deceased's family and the injured robber.

If this coach was simply a law-abiding CPL holder and not a reserve officer, the outcome would be much different if he chose to follow the law. I'm assuming the media outlet would plaster "gun illegally carried by reserve officer" all over if there wasn't some sort of statute that allows a reserve officer to carry on school grounds.

Of course, most of the comments regarding this story have shifted, with most of the anti comments being "so what! You don't need an AR-15 to defend yourself! See? See?! SEE!?!"

I'm waiting for Piers "Moron" Morgan to invite him onto his farce of a show so Piers can yell over the coach and grill him about AR-15s instead of his deeds.

Man, I'm ecstatic to see these kinds of stories actually getting reported with more frequency - with the "debate" going on in public, the news is allowing these things to pop up more lately. It's great seeing someone protect those around them.

I hope all are well who were hassled by these thugs. Job well done, coach.

We have 2 Resource Officers at The High school I drive my school bus too.Unarmed, but we have 2 city Police Officers that monitor 5,200 students a day for all the schools in My city,I'd say the coach is In a bad situation certainly acted Justifiably in the actual confrontation but ,If He was in a Gun Free school zone and it can be proven,Coutroom here we come criminal and Civil by the parents of the Deceased and wounded.I asked 3 Ohio Highway patrolmen that safety check all the buses at Our bus garage the other day if I have my firearm locked up in my vehicle in my car in the parkig lot was I violating the school Gun Free safety zone per Our school system and state law,They all said YES,but If you do it Just keep quiet...Interesting choice I can Make...

From the sounds of it nothing. Article I read said they were after the coaches gold necklace.

I cant shake the feeling that this guy would be up poo creek without a paddle if he wansnt a "RESERVE OFFICER"

One of us regular joes would be hung out to dry for packing on school grounds.

In Michigan I believe we are allowed our concealed pistol in the school parking lots as we are dropping off and picking up children just not inside. His reserve officer status will likely protect him even further. My kid is well out of high school, I may be wrong.

Regardless, if the report holds true this is an excellent shoot. The NRA ought to be falling all over themselves to hold this gentleman up as an example if he is willing. I am not sure I would want the publicity myself. Tough call.

I'd like to think that if I were 70 and done a truly honorable thing like he did, I'd be comfortable with the publicity and cantankerous enough to let them use me as the test case.

To the posters who think they were just after his necklace, come on. 2 armed teenage boys in a parking lot approaching and assaulting an old guy and 2 teenage girls? You don't think they were after more than a necklace?

Regardless, intent is moot when they cross the line and take action. They WERE armed. They DID assault. This coach did a great thing and those girls are safe.

Since when is ABC not mainstream news?

Here it is showing up in Denver...
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/new...chool-coach-shoots-2-attackers-outside-school

It was a local event covered by local news and picked up on the internet. It was distributed by ABC outside of the local area and ABC is definitely part of the mainstream media.

Watch the surviving creep will sue because he was shot in a gun free zone. The 70 year old hero will go to jail. Betting this story will get little press.

Schools are not gun free zones to anyone with a CHL issued by the state.
From the article: Police sources say the coach has a Concealed Pistol License and is reportedly a reserve police officer.

The coach isn't a teacher at the school. It's not uncommon for school districts to outsource for extra-curricular activities. For all practical purposes, the attackers were shot by an off duty police officer.

Reminds me of a while back when a town I grew next to had a guy beaten to death. The news showed all of the neighbors talking about what a great guy he was and how friendly he'd always been.

Then later the news stopped talking about it when they found out that the guy that was beaten to death had multiple criminal convictions for drugs and violence.

The perp is always "a nice guy who could never have done this" to their friends and neighbors.
