I'd like to solicit feedback, suggestions, editing, etc for a new advocacy/education site for Right To Carry (RTC) in IL:

http://ArmIllinois.com/

There's still a lot of room for more information on the site, so writing contributions would be warmly welcomed as well. :)

The goal is to educate people, make them more comfortable with (if not outright supportive of) RTC, and hopefully get them to help spread the word and get people talking about RTC in IL.

Target audience is ... well, everyone in IL ;) ... but most importantly those people on-the-fence regarding 2A issues, or those anti-gun but without a strong conviction. I want to take this outside the walls of firearms enthusiasts, we have enough preaching to the choir.

The premise is this (grabbing from another of my posts earlier today):
1) Many people, especially in the Chicago area, have a gut-reaction against guns but it's not based on anything other than what they've been fed by the media and Chicago machine.
2) These people can educated to understand that "guns" are a scapegoat, and not the real problem.
3) Nothing is going to change in this state until the people in and around Chicago stop for a moment, think for themselves (which is possible only after they're educated on the topic), and decide NOT TO parrot the "guns are evil" rhetoric they've been indoctrinated with.

p.s. Please sign the petition! Even if you don't live in IL, you might want to travel here, do business here, etc. The bigger that number gets, the better. People love to do what everyone else is doing ;) As silly as it sounds, somebody on the fence is more likely to jump aboard if they see everyone else doing the same.

A good idea, but wonder if affiliating with Illinois State Rifle Association might be a consideration.
They are growing and already have a lot of political backers.

If the ISRA wants to throw any weight or contributions behind this, then heck yes.

In case this was a suggestion implying a duplication of efforts with the ISRA... it's not. I am, and have been a card carrying member of the ISRA and support them 100%. But they haven't been making a push in this direction, as far as I've seen.

This site was created out of an apparent void in the IL 2A ecosystem. We have groups (e.g. IllinoisCarry) advocating RTC amongst themselves and working alongside the ISRA to make changes. We have the ISRA, 2nd Amendment Foundation, and (a bit of) NRA help in the legislative and judicial battles.

But... nobody is taking up the cause to educate the general public. The only education/advocacy is a bunch of preaching the choir.

As such, this site was created to be shared with everyday IL folks who might not know or care much about 2nd Amendment rights.

Thank you for posting this. Sad to say, but I live in Chicago and and I think your right, they just need correct education.

Thanks. Help spread the message then. :)
Send the site to friends, family, etc. Facespace it, mybook it, tweet and twoot it, etc.

And again - if anyone has recommendations, feedback etc to make it a better resource for anti's or (more importantly) those on the fence or indifferent about the 2nd Amendment, by all means let me know.

Your to late, already passed the site off to everyone in my address book right after I saw your post :)

Is this your site?

Suggested change to stated goal:

The goal is to educate people, make them supportive of (but at least comfortable with) RTC, and get them to help spread the word and get people to demand RTC in IL.

Set the bar high!

Honestly? The name is poorly chosen, in my opinion. The connotation is too easily misconstrued to be negative.

There's a reason abortion proponents don't call themselves 'pro-abortion', but 'pro-choice.' Words have power, and I think something more like 'Illinois Gun Safety', or 'Illinois Gun Freedom' would be less corruptible.

Just my opinion, obviously, and doesn't diminish that you're doing something worth doing.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I've struggled with those same thoughts myself, and others have shared that same concern.

I've been going back and forth on it for a while now (the other side of the argument is that we need something short and sweet, easy to remember, associated with firearms, available domain name, etc).

Your comment is the tipping point though - the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back and whatnot... so thanks again. :)
I'm 100% decided that a name change is in order.

I like your suggestions as well (with the minor caveat that I don't want "gun" in the name, since that has a highly negative connotation in the Chicago area due to politicians and liberal media).

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these:
IllinoisFreedom.com (doesn't have any firearms-association in the name, but IllinoisFirearmsFreedom is a little too long)
ProtectIllinois.org (can be used with word play - protect yourself, protect our freedoms, etc - but I can't get .com)
WeAreLast.com (more emphasis on the only state completely outlawing RTC)
IllinoisIsLast.com
LastToCarry.com

Actually none of these have firearms association in the name, but that might be a good thing? Get people to visit who wouldn't otherwise.

Thoughts? Other ideas?

Um, didn't mean to break the camel's back. :)

And I agree, leaving 'gun' out makes sense. And 'Illinois is a designated victim zone DOT com' would be unwieldy.

ProtectIllinois
OperationIllinoisSafety
IllinoisCrimeFighters (hey, it's what gun ownership does)
FreeIllinois (play up the 'last to get a right' angle)
FreedomForIllinois

Not much of a marketer, I'm afraid. But I'm glad you're doing this-this state has gone far, far too left to tolerate. Between corruption, taxation, street cams and everything else, I keep expecting to bump into Lenin or Marx on Metra....
