i am getting a set of Pachmayr grips for my ruger lcr 9mm and they recommend to use armor all for occasional wipe down to protect them. i called ruger and they don't know, armor all said it should be fine as did Pachmayr, but i wanted to ask to see if anyone has used it on a grip of a lcr and if it would be ok if it accidentally from time to time got under the grip and was on the polymer frame? i don't want to take my grip off every time i clean it, i only take my grip off every 6 months or so to oil the main spring and put oil on the pivit pin. thanks for any help

Cousin Eddie @chicharrones had the same thought I did. I’m a shooter, motorcycle enthusiast, and angler...none of those go well with armor all so my immediate response was just short of panic... you could probably use armor all to protect the grip when not in use, but when in use the slippery stuff needs removed. I can’t imagine that the chemical cleaners that cut the armorall will be good for the grips...and the armorall makes for slippery grips, slippery tires, slippery leather seats, and slippery boat parts.

Just Say No.

I've been using Pachmayr grips for 35 years and have yet to wipe them down with anything and they never looked any different than when they were new. As has been pointed out, Armorall just makes stuff slick, if I were you I'd avoid it and not worry about the grips, they'll be fine.

Shiny and slickery... I would pass on applying any type of waxy or protective coating on gun grips.

I remember the first, and only, time I Armor Alled the boat seats. With every wake we crossed the kids were sliding all over the place

I have been in the automotive industry (Body Shop) for over 40 years. There is a LOT of different kinds of plastics on a car and I have yet to see the advantage of using it. Its one of the worse things that I know of to put on your tires!

I wouldn't think of putting it on a gun at all!!!

Mineral Oil works GREAT for a LOT of things!

You seem to be posting this question on all the forums available. I hope the most-quoted reply is NOT AT ALL.

i try to ask on as many as possible, want to get every ones advice, and yes all have said not use it. i won't be using it, a friend contacted me a short while ago and he had already put it on his. i told him to wipe it completely off and get it dried good, he asked if he hurt his frame. i told him no one said it would harm the frame so his frame should be ok and he was glad of that. thanks again for the help.

I actually thought about that myself a few days ago when I bought a Smith & Wesson that had a set of dirty Pachmayr's on it. Then I thought about the time I put Armor All one my CJ-5's seats. I'm glad I had seat belts or I'd have slipped out the door.

Back to the dirty Pachmayr's. I just scrubbed them gently with an old toothbrush, and Ivory soap and water. The cleaned up about like new, and they're probably 30-35 years old.

I stopped using Armor-All years ago when I got this hazy film on the inside of the windshield after using it on the dashboard of my car. That and it made the car seats, steering wheel, and everything else that it was on slippery as all get out! Would definitely not use it on any rubber grips. These Pachmayrs have been on my Hi-Power for over 30 years and have never been cleaned or conditioned with any sort of Armor-All like product.

I would think that it was a bad idea just for the slickness it would leave behind----. I used it on my leather seats when I spiffed up my jeep to go on a date years ago. After picking up the cute girl we started down the road and a short way into the trip a deer ran out in front of us. I jammed on the brakes and she ended up in a heap sitting on the passengers side floor. Immediate end of date and interest in me as well.

No reason to do it, lots of reasons not to.

ArmorAll would be no different than common gun oil as far as making it slick but much easier to avoid.

When I think "ArmorAll," I think "slicker'n snot on a doorknob." That's based on my experiences with ArmorAll and vinyl seats over the years. For gun grips, I'll pass.

I find that warm water, a bit of Dawn dishsoap, thorough drying, and appreciate oiling is about as fancy as I get when needing to scrub any grip of a gun that isn't generally covered by normal maintenance or that requires special treatment.

Can't imagine why anybody would want to use Armorall on any gun grips.
I have Pachmayrs that are nearly 40 years old & in great shape.

What possible gain could there be?
Denis
